Love Is Dead: Demi Lovato And Wilmer Valderrama Call It Quits

This week we’ve seen not one, not two, but three couples split up. First it was Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris, then Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik called it quits, and now, after almost six years, Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama have ended their relationship.

Both Demi and Wilmer took to Twitter and Instagram to post a photo announcing their breakup on June 3.

“After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship,” the couple wrote. “This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another.”

“Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years,” they continued. “With only love, Wilmer & Demi.”

Demi and Wilmer had dated on and off for a few years but recently the two seemed closer than ever. They attended multiple events and award shows together and supported each other on social media. Additionally, both Demi and Wilmer have been very candid about their relationship. Wilmer went on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show just last year, gushing about Demi and how they fell in love.

There were even rumors that the couple may be engaged and planning to get married soon. These rumors were even more fueled when Demi posted a picture of her hand with rings on it for Valentine’s Day. However, Demi quickly let fans know that it was not in fact an engagement ring but just a nice gift.

Still, fans are utterly shocked by the news of Demi and Wilmer’s split.

Though Demi and Wilmer’s breakup is totally heartbreaking, at least it seems it was mutual and the two will remain friends. They have been together for so long and have seen each other through so many ups and downs that it would be absolutely devastating to see these two just part ways for good.

Wilmer has been by Demi’s side through her rehab, recovery, the loss of her father, and so much more. Similarly, Demi has supported Wilmer as he starred in From Dusk to Dawn, even making a guest appearance on the show, and Minority Report. Demi was Wilmer’s number one cheerleader when he guest starred on Grey’s Anatomy this season, and Wilmer was Demi’s number one supporter when she performed at the Grammys earlier this year.

Although it seems like both Demi and Wilmer agree that their breakup is really final and they’re better off friends, one can’t help but hope that this is just a setback and they’ll get back together. They’ve broken up before and worked it out, so maybe it’ll happen again.

Seeing them apart just doesn’t seem right and they just seemed so perfect for each other. Hopefully, this isn’t the last we’ll see of Demi and Wilmer as the power couple that they once were.

This devastating blow comes right as Demi Lovato begins her Future Now tour with Nick Jonas. Thankfully, Demi and Nick have always been close friends and Demi will have him by her side to help her through this tough time. Not to mention Demi’s fans are already rallying behind her, showing their support for Demi and Wilmer’s decision even though they wish it wasn’t so.

After this terrible week of breakups, one can only hope the worst is over now. We’ve lost a lot of great celeb couples this week and it’d be a shame to see anymore go.
