Anthony Hopkins Joins ‘Transformers 5’ Cast

Sir Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of Transformers 5: The Last Knight, alongside Mark Wahlberg and Josh Duhamel. The news was announced on the Transformers Twitter page with a post welcoming Hopkins to the family.

Hopkins is no stranger to action movies, having appeared as the dad in the popular Thor superhero films opposite Chris Hemsworth. No information has been released about his role and whether he will appear in person or as a voiceover.

Transformers director Michael Bay was on a casting binge the last couple days, having already announced another, sweeter addition to the movie. On his personal Twitter account, Bay tweeted that he was giving “Britain’s loneliest dog” a role in the film and that he was also going to find her a home.

If he’s unsuccessful in his quest to find her a forever family, Bay says he will take Freya, a 6-year-old Staffordshire terrier who has spent her entire life in a kennel, home with him. Freya has epilepsy and has been rejected more than 18,000 times.

Production has started on the fifth installment in the series, but few details have been released. A teaser video that revealed the name of the movie was posted on the official Transformers Twitter and Instagram accounts, but aside from a shot of Optimus Prime, no further information was given.

Paramount Pictures has already stated that they have developed a 10-year plan for the popular movie series; although, after number five it is likely that Michael Bay will be jumping ship. Transformers 6 will be a lower budget spin-off featuring Bumblebee that will hit theaters in June 2018 and Transformers 7 will come out in June 2019.

In addition to Josh Duhamel returning (despite not being in the fourth installment), Tyrese Gibson, who played United States Air Force Chief Master Sargeant Epps in the first three movies, has been posting videos begging Bay to let him come back. In response to Gibson’s videos, Bay posted his own video with a brief message.

“Tyrese is getting itchy to be back! I’m thinking…”

14-year-old Isabel Moner is also joining Transformers 5: The Last Knight as a tomboy orphan. According to The Wrap, her only friend is a Transformer “until she meets Wahlberg’s heroic inventor Cade Yeager.” Moner is a Nickelodeon star who has appeared in 100 Things To Do Before High School and Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life.

Optimus Prime left earth at the end of the fourth movie, but with Bay’s confirmation that Megatron will be coming back in Transformers 5: The Last Knight, you can safely assume that Prime will be back as well. In an interview with Deadline last year, head writer Akiva Goldsman seemed to indicate that the series would be starting fresh with the writers going back to the basics of looking at the old toys, TV shows, and merchandise before getting started. The franchise has brought in almost $4 billion worldwide, so the stories need to be fresh if they are going to keep drawing in viewers. Merchandise for the popular series has brought in an additional $3 billion in revenue.
