Romney’s charter jet experienced quite the scare yesterday when a gun was discovered in the bathroom. Turns out, a member of Mitt Romney’s security detail accidentally left the firearm behind.

The GOP nominee was headed to Indianapolis, Indiana from the RNC convention when a CBS News/National Journal reporter discovered the gun and alerted the flight attendant. A Secret Service member was alerted, and though details are fuzzy, we kind of think it went like this: “Oh, THERE’S my gun.”

Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan addressed the situation in a statement: “We are aware of the incident. We take the care and custody of our equipment, especially firearms, very seriously. We will deal with this matter internally and in an appropriate manner.”

In other Romney news, the presidential hopeful will soon start receiving national intelligence briefings, according to CNN. Though the Obama administration is still working out the details, this historically begins after the candidate’s convention nomination.

“We are finalizing preparations for the candidate briefings, but will not actually deliver a brief until after the GOP convention concludes. With regard to who will receive briefs, that’s up to the Romney campaign,” said Shawn Turner, spokesman for the director of national intelligence.

Presidential candidates are not furnished with this information due to the potential for turnover, but rather to inform them to sensitive matters that could potentially jeopardize national security if the candidate were to inadvertently or unknowingly make statements regarding them. In layman’s, it’s a “don’t” list of things to talk about, or more specifically, a list of things to “not accidentally” talk about.

Mitt Romney has been traveling with Secret Service protection since February, and has an armed detail on him at all times. Ann Romney was just assigned her own security detail as well, though it’s a smaller force.
