WWE News: Internal Discussions About Splitting Up Enzo & Cass Amid Desire To Push Big Cass As A Singles Star

When Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, aka Enzo & Cass, burst onto the scene the night after WrestleMania 32, their reputation among the hardcore wrestling audience clearly proceeded them. They were immediately over on the big stage, and they carried that momentum to the mainstream crowds. Enzo & Cass were quickly becoming the most must-see act on the main roster, rivaling The New Day for the most entertaining tag team in WWE.

The pair hit a minor bump in the road at Payback when Enzo suffered a scary injury in their match against The Vaudevillains. It turned out to be a concussion, and Enzo was forced to miss some time. Recent history has shown that WWE officials would rather keep the remaining healthy member(s) of a tag team off television and wait for their partner to get healthy instead of giving them a look on television as a singles competitor.

When Konnor of The Ascension was suspended for violating the WWE Wellness Policy, Viktor was relegated only to live events. But to be fair, The Ascension had descended down the ladder and might not have been getting much time on RAW or SmackDown anyway. But then there’s also The Wyatt Family. Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper both went down with injuries, which has kept Braun Strowman and Erick Rowan off TV despite being healthy. WWE just assumes to bring the entire faction back together, as without their leader, they’re much less effective. In fact, one might wonder if Big Cass is being looked at now the way Strowman was before WrestleMania, with perhaps Cass getting the push once saved for The Black Sheep of The Wyatt Family.

But unlike those two instances, Big Cass remained on television when Enzo was on the shelf. The Inquisitr has reported in the past that Big Cass was impressing a lot of WWE officials backstage, and his extended look as a singles star was no accident. PWInsider is now reporting (via Ringside News) that Cass has been booked the way he has over the last two months as a way to protect him for whenever they decide to pull the trigger on his singles run.

At this point, it seems like the only question is when, not if, Big Cass goes at it alone. Enzo & Cass are currently involved in a program with The Dudley Boyz that should at least last through Money in the Bank. And at one point, they were being pinpointed for a WWE Tag Team Championship match with The New Day at SummerSlam. However, The Club’s involvement in the tag team title picture could change those plans as well.

In addition to Big Cass’ booking as of late, it’s being reported that Enzo came back from his concussion a few weeks earlier than expected. The team appeared on SportsCenter this past week, but when Jonathan Coachman asked Enzo about the injury, he shrugged it off as being no big deal. Coachman also brought up the impending brand extension, to which both said they hope to remain together on the same show, whether it be RAW or SmackDown. There have been whispers about splitting the pair up, primarily due to Vince’s infatuation with Cass, but neither seems like they want to go in that direction just yet.

The tag team division has been the subject of a lot of the debate surrounding the brand split as of late. No decisions have been made yet as to whether the entire division will be sent to one show or the other, or if tag teams will compete on both shows with two sets of titles. If the latter is the case, it might be silly to split up Enzo & Cass, arguably the hottest team on the roster. If Vince McMahon thinks Big Cass has a big future on his own, then tag team be darned.
