Deontae Mitchell Found Dead, Suspect Arrested; Teen Had A ‘Huge Heart’

Deontae Mitchell has been found dead. After an exhaustive search, which was precipitated by an Amber Alert, the Detroit teenager’s body was found in Detroit on Friday. According to Detroit News, the felon allegedly responsible for the teen’s death is in custody.

According to authorities, Deontae Mitchell’s body was found this week and was identified by Deonte’s mother, Crystal Mitchell. An autopsy on the 13-year-old Deontae Mitchell is planned for Friday morning.

“We’re talking about a defenseless child. An adult male with a gun.”

Deontae Mitchell’s body was found behind and an empty lot. The one-story lot had once housed a tax service.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig offered up his prayers to Deontae Mitchell’s family on Thursday evening calling the child’s fate a “horrific crime.”

According to reports, Deontae Mitchell was pursued by the armed suspect on Tuesday night. When he was caught by Gregory Walker, Deontae Mitchell was reportedly forced into an awaiting vehicle. That car has been identified as a 2000’s Chevrolet Impala.

In addition to finding Deontae Mitchell’s body on Thursday, officials also arrested the man they’d sought in the young teen’s disappearance.

On Wednesday, Detroit police authorities released a video of the suspect in the abduction of Deontae Mitchell. The suspect was identified Gregory Walker, and the public was advised to be vigilant for a sighting of Deontae Mitchell.

In the video, which was captured by surveillance camera, Deontae Mitchell could be seen being forced into an early 2000’s Chevrolet Impala. The man forcing the young teen into his car was later identified by law enforcement as Walker.

Video of the abduction of Deontae Mitchell was released by the police to the press on Thursday morning. The video clearly shows Deontae Mitchell being forced into the Impala.

According to the single witness to the crime, a cousin of Deontae Mitchell’s, the fatal incident started earlier in the evening. At just after 11 p.m. local time, Deontae and his cousin had been riding their bikes at a local market. It was then that they saw an obviously intoxicated male urinate outside of the market.

That intoxicated male was later identified, through surveillance video, as Walker.

During to process of peeing outside of the market, Walker reportedly dropped a wad of cash, which Deontae Mitchell is said to have picked up and pocketed.

While police decline to specifically speculate, many believe the theft of the dropped cash to be the reason Deontae Mitchell was abducted.

Surveillance tape later verified that Deontae was picked up by Walker in the parking lot of the market. Prior to grabbing Mitchell, Walker had chased him and his cousin through the lot, ultimately grabbing Deontae Mitchell by the arm and pulling the unwilling teen into an awaiting vehicle.

Police diligently searched for Deontae Mitchell following the report of his late Tuesday night abduction. Detroit law enforcement issued an Amber Alert for the abducted teen but got no responses. It wasn’t until Wednesday that authorities were alerted of a potential body in the Deontae Mitchell case. It was only then that the Detroit teen’s mother was allowed to view and identify the young man’s remains.

According to reports, the primary suspect in the disappearance of Deontae Mitchell has been both identified and arrested. However, authorities are still in search of another supsect in the crime. In order to ensure that Deontae Mitchell gets the justice he deserves, anyone with information related or leading to the accomplice(s) of Gregory Walker is encouraged to call 911 or their local law enforcement.

On behalf of all of the media hoping for a positive resolution in the Deontae Mitchell case, our hearts go out to Deontae’s family and friends in this trying time of bereavement. God bless and namaste.

Rest in peace sweet baby. Please let Deontae Mitchell and his family find justice in the wake of this horrific outcome.
