Jennifer Lawrence’s Cringeworthy Harrison Ford Story

Jennifer Lawrence, the American actress best known for portraying Katniss in the Hunger Games movies and for bringing the character of Mystique to life for the second time in the X-Men movies, is generally well recognized by her fans and fellow actors and actresses. She is somewhat of a household name these days due to her success with multiple movie franchises and award nominations. But this was not the case when she got the chance to meet a legend.

According to Mashable, Jennifer Lawrence was not recognized by film legend Harrison Ford.

During her appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Jennifer Lawrence told the story of her first encounter with Harrison Ford as she mustered up the confidence to approach him at a dinner, in the hopes that he would recognize her, only to find out that he and the rest of the Star Wars cast had no clue on who she was.

Ford was with J.J. Abrams at the time, and Jennifer Lawrence approached the table in the hopes that they would recognize who she is, thinking that they would all know each other because they’re all in the film industry together, but as she got closer she realized that the expression on their faces said otherwise. The Hunger Games star self-consciously eased herself back into her own chair. And to make matters worse, Jennifer Lawrence was with her friend Jack Whitehall at the time, who claimed to be close to Harrison Ford. Jack proved his point by walking over to the Star Wars actor’s table, and Jennifer Lawrence could only watch on in horror as Harrison Ford got up from his table and greeted her friend enthusiastically.

Harrison Ford was not the only Hollywood legend that Jennifer Lawrence interacted with recently. According to the Huffington Post, Jennifer Lawrence took the stage at the 27th annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York City last month.

At this point, the audience at the GLAAD Media Awards had already witnessed Lee Daniels pay tribute to Mariah Carey’s work, Connie Britton rock her magic hair, and Caitlyn Jenner appear onstage with Diane Sawyer. Jennifer Lawrence was there to honor Robert De Niro with the Excellence in Media Award, while still managing to charm the crowd and win them over. She delivered a touching speech to celebrate decades of Robert De Niro’s advocacy for the LGBT community.

After gushing about how pretty the audience looked, she started off her speech by reiterating that Robert De Niro is not gay and joking that she didn’t know why they were there. She eventually got with the program and honored De Niro’s efforts to encourage the acceptance of LGBT people within the entertainment industry. De Niro’s father was gay and much of his own work within the community was geared towards helping amplify the voices of diverse filmmakers.

Jennifer Lawrence honored Robert De Niro with a speech, calling him “one of the greatest actors who’s ever lived.”

“I can learn a lot from [Robert De Niro], but the most important thing that he’s taught all of us is acceptance. Bob is the kindest person I’ve ever met. His heart is so giving… and with his own quiet strength it’s no wonder that this man, and the incredible organization that is GLAAD, would come together tonight.”

Jennifer Lawrence concluded her speech with a joke.

“GLAAD and Bob have a lot in common. They’re both gay. Just kidding. I was told by five different people to cut that and I was like, ‘Hell no.'”
