Fresno County, CA – A woman fought and chased off her own daughter’s would-be kidnapper with a shotgun on Tuesday.

Fresnobee reports that a man broke into the Brianne Rodriguez’s house on the 8000 block of South Maple Avenue at around 8:39 am. She desperately fought the assailant inside her home, even while being continually struck and kicked after being thrown to the ground. The man then grabbed Rodriguez’s 2-year-old daughter and attempted to make it to his vehicle.

Before the man got away with her daughter, the Rodriguez grabbed a shotgun and ordered him to release her daughter. The man dropped the child and then took off South on Maple Avenue.

“I was thinking please God don’t let him take my baby. I’m here now, I need to get her, to protect my baby. I kicked into lioness mode, protecting my cub,” said Brianne Rodriguez.

“He came around the corner here, that’s when I cocked the gun and yelled at him. He heard and saw and tossed my daughter on the floor. I picked her up, she’s okay though. If I didn’t have my gun, I don’t know what I would’ve done. I would’ve ran out here chasing him, and he probably wouldn’t have stopped,” said Rodriguez.

KMPH reports that this was not the first time that Rodriguez had to pull a gun on an intruder.

“About a year ago somebody tried to break in, and I scared him off with a gun. I guess I’m Annie Oakley,” she said

Some might say that Rodriguez is a hero, but she does not feel that way.

“I had to do something. I wasn’t just going to sit there and watch someone take off with my baby. It’s nothing to commend. I just did what I had to do,” said Rodriguez.

Law enforcement is still looking for the suspect. The assailant is a light-skinned Hispanic or white man. He was wearing a long-sleeved, camouflage shirt and a black ski mask. He is in his early 20s with sandy, blond hair. The getaway car was an early-model, bright-blue Honda Civic or Accord that is lowered and has a loud after-market exhaust.
