Keke Palmer Responds To Her Haters And ‘The Real’ Rumors

Keke Palmer has been the center of social media hate. Now the actress is looking to use the good part of social media to make some much-needed change in Hollywood.

Keke Palmer sat down for an exclusive Q&A with the Los Angeles Times, in which she shared her thoughts on the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag that trended on social media this year. Palmer is now looking to use social media to bring these important conversations to the table so that changes can be made in the film and television industry. She also hopes that it will give people of color more work in Hollywood.

“I felt like that was messed up, but, even more so, I felt like we needed more projects. As much as accolades are great, my mind was going to, ‘Well, if we don’t have the movies out there, how can we get nominated for them?’ There needs to be more opportunity for different types of people so we see those different types of people getting nominated and winning.”

Keke recently used social media to respond to her haters. After posting a makeup-free selfie on Snapchat, trolls took to her post to slam her looks. Keke didn’t let them win, though. She fought back on Instagram after she saw some of her own fans defending her.

“I focus on who loves me, not who hates me. I hate that everyone feels like this is a big deal. I didn’t even want to make a post for it but I keep seeing people say ‘Leave Keke alone’ or ‘Why are you being mean to Keke’ lol. I don’t want any of my supporters to get the wrong idea about who I am. Keke is fine because Keke knows who she is. Keke doesn’t care to conform to what people thinks she should be. #IDontBelongToYou- And Keke knows that love is the only real thing out there, everything else is delusion. When I see people being mean, I know it’s them and not me.”

The former child star also wondered why her makeup-free selfie was causing so much heat on social media. It’s not like Palmer is the only one who posts these types of selfies. Palmer joins the ranks of Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, Kylie Jenner, Miley Cyrus, and countless other celebs who have shared their own makeup-free selfies on Instagram. Palmer has made it clear that she’s comfortable in her own skin, acne scars and all.

It all happened when Keke Palmer posted the following photo on Snapchat, along with the caption, “When u about that tan life #darkerpleaaaaaseee”

The photo shows the actress looking fresh-faced and young as she covered her left nipple with her right hand. Maybe people didn’t like how Keke looked in the photo, or maybe they thought it was too provocative in nature. It certainly had nothing to do with Keke wanting to appear darker. According to Madame Noire, some thought that she looked “fallen off,” “washed out,” or older than her actual age. Some even accused Keke of abusing drugs.

After she was dragged for posting the Snapchat pic, fellow musician K. Michelle took to Twitter to defend her. Although she didn’t directly name Palmer, it was clear that she was defending her.

Keke Palmer has also found herself in the middle of The Real’s controversy. After Tamar Braxton’s announcement that she’s been fired from the daytime talk show, rumors swirled that Palmer was going to replace her on the new season.

According to Bossip, producers had the 22-year-old star in mind as a replacement.

“The person who’s going to replace Tamar is Keke Palmer,” the source said. “Rachel produced the pilot for Telepictures with Keke Palmer last week. She likes Keke and Keke, of course, wants to do another talk show. She’s on the fast track to being in that role.”

She then took to Twitter to slam those rumors.

On Saturday, May 28, she tweeted, “I’m not hosting the real. But I am still doing my talk show.”

Palmer is no stranger to the talk show scene. Back in 2014, Palmer was known as the youngest woman to host a talk show on American television with her debut show, Just Keke, which aired on BET.
