Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp is out of the lineup after he collided with the center field wall during his team’s Tuesday night matchup against the Rockies in Denver.

Kemp, 27, was chasing a deep hit ball off the bat of Josh Rutledge when he ran full-speed into the wall, fell to the ground and began writhing in pain.

After the play, Kemp stayed down for several minutes as team trainers checked him over.

“He was talking fine. He was actually kind of funny,” manager Don Mattingly said. “He was like, ‘I’m not coming out of this game, I’m not coming out of this game.’ “

After taking several minutes to regroup, he was allowed to continue but soon after he was forced to leave the game after diving hard for a blooper single.

The All-star, who needed three stitches for a cut on his chin brought about by the collision, was listed as day-to-day after tests revealed that he suffered only a sore jaw and a bone bruise to his left knee during the incident.

Kemp was not listed in Wednesday’s lineup, but told reporters that he hoped to be back for the Dodgers’ game against the Diamondbacks at home on Thursday.

For the season, Kemp, who has missed 51 games this year because of a left hamstring issue, is hitting .337 with 17 home runs and 54 runs batted in.
