David Chalian, the Yahoo! News Washington bureau chief, was handed his walking papers today effective immediately after making a racially charged Anti-Romney comment on the Yahoo/ABC live webcast of the Republican National Convention.

In a reference to Hurricane Isaac, Chalian was heard saying that Mitt Romney is “happy to have a party when black people drown.” The Newsbusters website originally broke the story about Chalian’s offensive comments.

The audio clip is posted below although it’s somewhat muffled, and you have to listen closely.

According to Politico, Yahoo! released the following communication:

“David Chalian’s statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!.  He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended.”

The notion that the mainstream or elite media plays it down middle has long since reached its sell-buy date. Playing the race card at every opportunity should be unacceptable to all Americans regardless of political affiliation, however.

It would be interesting to learn if President Barack Obama has suspended his campaigning and political fundraising and playing golf during the hurricane. You can be sure that the media would be clamoring to report on that if G.W. Bush was still in the White House.

In a related development, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said yesterday that the federal government needs to do a lot more in the hurricane emergency along the Gulf Coast.

“Given the extraordinary developments of this storm and its approaching impact on the state of Louisiana, I ask that you exercise your discretion to approve the state’s pending request for all emergency protective measures,” Jindal wrote to the Obama administration.
