WWE Rumors: Vince McMahon Signing Former ROH World Champ Adam Cole As The New Leader of NXT

Vince McMahon has recently said that WWE currently has the most talent on its roster that it has ever had at one time. That is a huge reason that SmackDown is going live on Tuesday nights starting in July and the brand split is returning. With the brand split comes the superstar draft, and it could include a lot of top NXT talent being brought up to the main roster which means a new leader is needed and Vince wants that to be Adam Cole.

Yes, former Ring of Honor World Champion Adam Cole.

Before becoming a big name in CZW and Ring of Honor, Cole had a tryout with WWE that didn’t quite go as he hoped it would. He has since improved by leaps and bounds and is one of the best young talents in all of wrestling, so it’s no big surprise that McMahon wants to sign him.

Daily Wrestling News is reporting that Vince McMahon really wants to sign Adam Cole and have him come in to become the new face of NXT. This is something that is going to be extremely necessary in the next couple of months, but may not be possible.

Adam Cole has won titles across multiple promotions and that includes a number of championships in Ring of Honor. In a very short period of time, Cole has impressed anyone and everyone that has seen him in the ring.

When the superstar draft happens in July, the WWE main roster is going to be split down the middle between Monday Night Raw and SmackDown. It is also expected that when the draft happens, WWE will call up a number of big NXT names like Samoa Joe, Austin Aries, Shinsuke Nakamura, Hideo Itami, Finn Balor, and others.

That would leave the NXT roster rather picked apart and in need of some new names to step in and take over. Vince McMahon and Triple H will very well start looking to other promotions, the independent scene, and check out who is a current free agent.

That is where the problem resides with Adam Cole.

Currently, Cole is a huge part of Ring of Honor and his current contract is rumored to run out in April of 2017. He also recently joined the Bullet Club and has become a big name in the working relationship that ROH has with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), so it may be difficult for him to head to WWE/NXT anytime within the next year.

Earlier this year, Cole spoke with Wrestling Inc. about his WWE tryout a number of years ago and a few other topics. He was extremely complimentary of NXT and the system that WWE currently has going.

“I think NXT and Triple H are so focused on what they can do to be the best product, and I know ROH is too. I think it’s awesome and it creates an environment of ‘who’s going to show up where? who’s going to run where?’ NXT ran the Turner Ballroom in Milwaukee, which is an ROH venue. It’s cool, it’s exciting.”

If the majority of the top talent in NXT heads up to the main roster for the superstar draft, something is going to need to be done. WWE doesn’t want its extremely popular developmental territory to become stagnant or boring, and Adam Cole would help make sure that didn’t happen. The only problem is that it’s very likely Cole can’t leave Ring of Honor for at least a year, but then again, Vince McMahon has ways of making things happen.
