Bill O’Reilly Protests Treatment Of Kate Steinle, Woman Shot By Undocumented Immigrant

Bill O’Reilly began The O’Reilly Factor in an angry tone on Monday night. He talked about how only 4 percent of Americans have faith in Congress. Then, he immediately led to a segment on Kate Steinle, a woman who was shot by an illegal immigrant who was deported five times, returned to San Francisco, and shot her in the back.

“You may remember last July when 32-year-old Kate Steinle was murdered in San Francisco. She was out for a walk with her father when an illegal alien felon convicted in the USA seven times and deported five times shot her in the back,” O’Reilly said with remorse.

“The San Francisco sheriff’s department released Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, despite the federal government’s request not to. I proposed Kate’s Law, where a convicted aggravated felon who defies deportation would face tough mandatory sentencing,” O’Reilly continued, noting that his plan would give law enforcement a powerful tool to sweep dangerous foreign nationals off the streets of America.

The Fox News star sadly revealed that Sen. Harry Reid blocked “Kate’s Law,” and Senator Mitch McConnell would not put the proposed law up for a standalone vote. Kate’s Law stalled in the House of Representatives as well. Then, O’Reilly got really direct.

“If we as a country cannot pass a law to protect someone like Kate Steinle, then Congress should go out of business. That’s how bad this situation is and that’s why most Americans have lost confidence in the House and Senate.”

Even though Bill O’Reilly’s plan didn’t go through, the Steinle family is suing San Francisco and federal agencies for not protecting their daughter from a criminal who wasn’t supposed to be in America in the first place. PJ Media has the news.

“The lawsuit, filed Thursday in a federal court in San Francisco, seeks to hold the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the City and County of San Francisco and Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi of the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department for providing ‘the means and opportunity for a repeat drug felon to secure a gun and kill’ the 31-year-old, the complaint reads.”

Many of the commenters after the article show support for the Steinle family.

“I hope they win. San Francisco has turned into a sewer, not even worth going to anymore,” says Harryjmic.

“I support this family. I hope they find closure,” says Stanley Rogers.

Support for the Steinle family is immense on Twitter.

According to the Washington Times, progress is being made to deal with criminal undocumented immigrants.

“The wheels of justice turn slowly in some places, and in San Francisco, fortunately, they’re grinding in reverse if only for the moment…The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has reluctantly agreed that the city’s sheriff be allowed to answer the telephone when federal immigration authorities call looking for a locked-up immigrant.”

The article notes that previously, jailers kept that information and made it difficult for officers of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to take custody of illegals subject to deportation. Bill O’Reilly will likely keep pushing for something to be done. However, no matter what O’Reilly thinks, it’s an election season and neither party likely wants to do something that will hurt their voter base.
