WWE Rumors: Goldberg Vs. Brock Lesnar Secretly Teased In New Trailer For ‘WWE 2K17’ — Is He Coming Back To WWE?

For years, the return of Bill Goldberg to WWE has been teased, but nothing has happened and he hasn’t come back. Last night on Monday Night Raw, Goldberg made his return, but it was in the form of a video game character in WWE 2K17. That immediately brought up talks of him getting back in the ring for WWE, and a little Easter Egg in the trailer for WWE 2K17 actually revealed a possible trip for Goldberg to Suplex City.

Over the weekend, WWE posted a number of tweets that showed a door and told of something that would soon be hatching. Everyone assumed it was the return of The Wyatt Family, but it actually turned out to be Goldberg as a character in the next big WWE video game as revealed by the official WWE website.

The trailer for WWE 2K17 is quite simple in that it shows the door being blown off its hatches and Goldberg walking out surrounded by police officers as his theme music plays. At the end of the trailer, he is shown in the back of a cop car and looking out the window.

This is where the fun little Easter Egg comes in.

As Goldberg looks out the window to see where the cops are taking him, there is a city name reflected in the car window. It’s hard to read at first, but looking at a couple of more times and adjusting your eyes will allow you to see that they are heading to “Suplex City.”

Reddit was able to spin the image around to give a mirrored and much clearer look at the reflection of “Suplex City.”

Suplex City is the fictional city created by Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar, and it really became a reality at WrestleMania 31. In the main event of that pay-per-view, Lesnar decimated Roman Reigns with suplex after suplex, and at one point, he’s caught on camera saying “Suplex City, b***h.”

Now, this could simply be a selling point for the video game and mean nothing as far as real-life action in the ring goes. Still, it’s quite interesting and has fans talking about the game even more now that they have dropped that reference into the trailer.

Crave Online reported that when Sting was included as a character in one of the last WWE 2K games, it drew a lot of positive and big-time attention. This led to WWE talking things over with Sting and getting an agreement where he would wrestle a few matches for the company.

There is the distinct possibility that Goldberg’s inclusion in this year’s game would be fitting for a Goldberg vs. Lesnar match.

Goldberg’s last match in WWE came against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX, and it is still regarded as one of the most hated matches in history. Both wrestlers were on their way out of the company, and fans knew it so they destroyed it with a horrible reaction. The only positive thing was when special guest referee “Stone Cold” Steve Austin gave Stunners to each man.

The way things are going now, Goldberg has signed a deal with 2K Sports and not WWE. That pretty much means a comeback or one more match are not things that are any closer now than they were before the trailer debuted last night on Monday Night Raw.

Goldberg even did an interview with IGN, where he spoke about his wrestling career and being a character in the new game. He specifically mentions wishing he could wrestle Sting again and how he would play the game as Brock Lesnar if he wanted to defeat his own character in WWE 2K17.

Over the years, Goldberg has had conversations with WWE about a comeback, but nothing ever went past those talks. Last summer, Goldberg even met face to face with Triple H to talk about a possible return, but again, nothing came of them.

Maybe his inclusion in the new video games and the reaction of the fans will push things in the right direction.

Bill Goldberg returning to WWE and getting back in the ring to be an active wrestler again is something that has been rumored and discussed for over a decade. Will it ever happen? At this time, no one really seems to know, but this deal with 2K Sports could be the first step in getting him back in action. If it were to finally happen, it would also seem only fitting for Brock Lesnar to send Goldberg to Suplex City in a rematch from WrestleMania XX
