Trevor Noah Experiences Another Low Ratings Week On ‘The Daily Show’

Trevor Noah may not have had a good Memorial Day Weekend. When averaging the ratings from last week at Showbuzz Daily, Mr. Noah averaged 732,000 viewers per night. His worst night was Thursday, with 632,000 viewers, and his best night was Wednesday, with 826,000. These numbers are drastically lower than the numbers Jon Stewart used to pull in when he was the host.

Trevor Noah has experienced an uphill battle since taking over host duties for The Daily Show. A lot of people think he is charming. However, many people also think his brand of comedy doesn’t fit a late night talk show. On one extreme end, some people think he was hired only because he is black. On the other extreme end, some people think he is only criticized because he is black.

The New York Daily News certainly didn’t help things by writing an article titled “Daily Show host Trevor Noah is a flop.”

“If Millennials are truly eating up Trevor Noah, then an entire generation is suffering from comedy malnutrition,” writes columnist Gersh Kuntzman, before noting that Comedy Central says it is happy with Noah’s ratings when it comes to young folks.

“That’s because all he has in his comic quiver is jokes. And pretty simple jokes, too. Noah needs to do better. I happily gave him eight months to get comfortable, but he isn’t impressing many of us,” Kuntzman continues.

According to another article by the New York Daily News, Comedy Central doesn’t care that older people don’t like Trevor Noah.

“The truth is our network is a business and our core audience are millennials. And millennials are paying attention to us.”

As columnist Don Kaplan notes, millennials are important for advertising dollars. And even if they aren’t watching Noah on television, data shows that they are certainly watching him online on sites such as Hulu. So, things may not be so bad after all for Trevor Noah.

Noah will be escaping The Daily Show for a couple days to appear at the Just For Laughs Festival in Australia. The Sydney Morning Herald has the news.

“The South African comic heads the line-up for the Just For Laughs comedy festival at the Sydney Opera House and will also perform in Melbourne. Also on the bill are British comic Alan Carr, host of Alan Carr Chatty Man, and American comic and political activist Margaret Cho.”

Meanwhile, according to Breitbart, Noah isn’t a big fan of Fox News’ Megyn Kelly. In his segment on the Comedy Central program Wednesday, Noah excoriated Kelly and Fox for over-hyping the Trump interview, especially when compared with the actual result.

” ‘What the hell was it?’ an incredulous Noah asked. ‘This was sold as a bloodbath, but in the end it just turned out to be one of those couples baths that only exist in like Cialis commercials. What are those questions?’ “

However, Megyn Kelly certainly didn’t ignore Trevor Noah’s criticism.

Despite the fact that Breitbart is a right wing website, some of the commenters at the end of the article agree with Trevor Noah.

“Not a fan of the guy but I have to give this one to Trevor,” says Anotherday.

“Megyn Kelly isn’t very intelligent and she uses her gender as an excuse for her dumbness. Trevor is right on this,” claims RightTed.

Trevor Noah still has a lot of love on Twitter.

We’ll know in the next couple of months if The Daily Show renews Trevor Noah’s contract. Do you think Noah can survive another season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
