Bronx Man Charged After Fatally Beating Man Who Attacked His Wife

A Bronx man has been charged with manslaughter after he beat a man to death following an alleged attempted rape attack on the Bronx man’s wife.

Police sources said the furious man beat the alleged attacker with a tire iron until he was injured so severely that he died, according to the Daily News.

Mamadou Diallo lives with his wife in the Claremont Village apartment building in the Bronx. The 61-year-old man arrived at the apartment after his wife, 51-year-old Nene Gale, called him to tell him that she had just been attacked by another man after he broke into their home on Washington Avenue near East 168th Street, reported the New York Post.

Once in the home, the man, identified as 43-year-old Earl Nash of Foxhurst, hit the woman and forcefully ripped off her clothes.

According to Diallo’s brother, Ibrahima Diallo, the incident began when Gale “thought it was her [16-year-old] son knocking on the door so she opened the door and saw the man she did not recognize.”

As she tried to close the door on the man, the man pushed his way into the apartment in the Bronx “and then punched her.”

She said she offered Nash money, but he refused it.

Gale said the man dropped his pants when he entered the home and told her, “I’m going to rape you.”

The two struggled, and the man used a chair to hit Gale.

Gale suffered bruising on her forehead from the attack.

Her husband was in the parking lot of the building when he received the phone call from his wife, who had managed to escape from the man. Diallo rushed upstairs and found Nash in an elevator on the 6th floor of the apartment building.

Diallo’s wife said, “I see my husband, I say, ‘That’s him! Don’t let him out!'”

Diallo managed to corner the man in the elevator and beat him with a tire iron until he was unconscious. However, Nash did fight before falling unconscious. He used a belt as a weapon in the fight which ultimately cost him his life.

Diallo’s brother says Nash attempted to hurt Diallo first.

“The guy punched him, he started fighting…This man said he’s gonna kill him, kill his family.”

Surveillance video showed Diallo beating Nash for up to two minutes.

Paramedics arrived to rush the man to Lincoln Hospital in downtown Bronx, as he was suffering from a fractured skull and other injuries. Nash later died from his injuries.

Police arrested the man who avenged his wife’s attack and charged him with manslaughter.

Diallo, a man from Guinea in West Africa, worked as a livery cab driver for the past 20 years.

“He’s been in this country 27 years and never had a problem with anyone,” said a friend.

Others supported the Bronx man, saying he was justified in killing the man who attacked his wife.

“He has a right to defend his wife,” said one person. “What are you going to do if somebody comes in and tries to rape your wife?”

Another neighbor said, “I saw him right after it happened. He saw his wife with the blood and screaming for his help and he did the right thing.”

As for Nash, he had a previous history of unlawful activity involving drugs, arson, robbery, and assault. In one case, he pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment of a 17-year-old girl for holding her captive for two days. She was sexually abused, stabbed and beaten during that time.

In 2015, Nash was paroled from prison on July 20. As recently as May 14, Nash had trouble with the law for aggravated harassment.

Despite his shady past, not all people thought Nash was a bad guy.

A friend of Nash, Gregory Williams, said, “He was one of a kind. I can’t say anything bad about that gentleman.”
