Shia LaBeouf tripped on acid while filming acid scenes for his upcoming film The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman. According to Shia, he had to trip on the acid to really get into the head of his character and to emulate some of his acting heroes.

Speaking to USA Today, the Transformers star said of the experience:

“There’s a way to do an acid trip like ‘Harold & Kumar,’ and there’s a way to be on acid. What I know of acting, Sean Penn actually strapped up to that [electric] chair in ‘Dead Man Walking.’ These are the guys that I look up to.”

As expected, the acid trip didn’t go over all that well when it came time to actually filming his scenes. LaBeouf explains that first time director Fredrik Bond was having a hard time dealing with his tripped out actor.

“Sometimes, it does get real,” LaBeouf revealed. “Too real for a [director] who’s trying to keep a diplomatic set.”

The actor, who has sworn off big budget movies for the near future, recently revealed that he was going to have real, unsimulated sex in the upcoming Lars von Trier flick Nymphomaniac. 

LaBeouf fans hoping to see all of the action of Nymphomanic up close and personal should be warned that images will be at least partly blurred out to keep the legality of the film in check.

We have seen some actors go pretty far for their craft, but acid trips and real-sex on film might be new highs, or perhaps lows, for a big name Hollywood star.
