‘The Originals’ Season 4: Will Klaus Return Redeemed Or More Of A Monster? [Spoilers]

The Originals was renewed for Season 4. However, the Season 3 finale ended in a way that shocked fans. Will Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) be redeemed or will he return even more of a monster?

Warning: The Originals Season 4 spoilers are ahead.

During the Season 3 finale of The Originals, Klaus was left in a comatose state and locked away in a tomb. Meanwhile, the rest of the Mikaelson siblings wait in a safe place until Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) can save them. This all happened because of Marcel’s (Charles Michael Davis) rage over Davina’s (Danielle Campbell) death. The Mikaelson prophecy was being fulfilled.

However, with The Originals renewed for Season 4, will Klaus, Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Freya (Riley Voelkel), Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) and Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt) return? Or will The CW vampire series focus on other characters? What we know is that Klaus Mikaelson will definitely return. It isn’t a matter of if, but when.

“But now he’s going to be suffering unendurable agony for who knows how long,” The Originals executive producer Michael Narducci told Entertainment Weekly regarding Klaus, “and when we see him again, will that choice to be selfless, which resulted in so much pain and agony and solitude — the thing that he fears most — will that actually make him even more of a monster? And remember, he won’t have Cami to help him. That’s going to be one of the great things to play. I’m not saying that we’re going to see Klaus backslide to his most terrible version, but I’m saying that threat exists, and I’m very curious to see who Klaus will be when we see him again.”

If Klaus is comatose and locked away in a brick tomb, then how will he return? As previously reported by the Inquisitr, it could happen in one of several ways. Klaus could get himself out of that situation, it could be Hayley or the Mikaelson siblings. The most likely scenario is that someone in New Orleans decides that Klaus has to wake up to take care of a problem. That person could a stranger, Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) or even Marcel if the situation is bad enough.

As for Klaus’ sacrifice on The Originals, Narducci spoke about what Joseph Morgan’s character is going through. Family is mentioned, and even though Klaus has done horrible things, even to his own family, it is the most important thing to him.

“One of the things that’s at the core of Klaus’ being is his desire to be with his family,” Narducci told EW. “Now, going into our hiatus, Klaus is alone, and it’s terrible. It’s the ultimate sacrifice, and it’s something I don’t think Klaus Mikaelson may have been capable of prior to the person we’ve started to show him to be on our series.”

What else can fans expect when The Originals returns with Season 4? For one, Marcel will figure out that the Mikaelson siblings are not dead.

“Very soon after the end of our finale, because the Elijah line of vampires won’t drop dead, Marcel is bound to figure out that Elijah is still alive,” Michael Narducci told TV Line regarding Marcel’s storyline in The Originals Season 4. “And when he does that, he’ll think, ‘Maybe Kol’s not dead either. Or Freya.’ All he has as collateral is the long-suffering body of his sire, who’s entombed in an undisclosed place. There are a lot of rich, interesting things to play with moving forward. But the question is: Is this family permanently destroyed, and is Marcel going to be their enemy forever?”
