Did Trump ‘Chicken Out’ From Debate With Sanders Fearing His Nomination?

Americans were excited by the notion that the country was finally going to see a Trump-Sanders debate. Everybody was speculating how this debate between two polar opposites was going to fare out. But now the presumptive republican nominee has refused to debate with Sanders saying it will be a “waste of time,” but analyzing the situation as it is, he might as well have done it fearing Sanders challenge in November.

The debate was a perfect opportunity for Trump to launch an attack on Clinton and thereby strengthening his positions in the general elections — after all the enemy of your enemy is your friend and they could have attacked Clinton on issues like gun violence and Clinton’s hideous e-mail scandals, but why did Trump choose not to go along with the debate? If it was a waste of time, as he so condescendingly pointed out, then why did he agree to it in the first place?

Liam Miller from filmsforaction says that the answer is quite simple. Trump does not want to face Sanders in November. Currently, Sanders is trailing Clinton by a big margin and the odds are against him. Trump campaign may have feared that this debate was only going to make Sanders stronger and may actually contribute to positively aid his democratic campaign, and if the polls are to believed, to battle out against Sanders would be the last thing Trump would want on November.

After Trump seemingly agreed for a debate, Sanders campaign were excited, but were still skeptical whether Trump would actually turn out for a debate. They even provoked Trump by saying that they hoped the outspoken conservative does not ‘chicken out’ from the debate.

Trump’s statement after he made the statement about debating Sanders made it clear that the seemingly impossible debate was now more than likely.

“If we can raise for maybe women’s health issues or something. If we can raise $10 or $15 million for charity, which would be a very appropriate amount. I understand the television business very well. I think it would get high ratings,” Trump was quoted making this statement by The Inquisitr.

But Trump declined the possibility of the debate and thereby crushing hearts of political enthusiasts by making the following statement.

“Based on the fact that the Democratic nominating process is totally rigged and Crooked Hillary Clinton and Deborah Wasserman Schultz will not allow Bernie Sanders to win, and now that I am the presumptive Republican nominee, it seems inappropriate that I would debate the second place finisher,” Trump said.

“Likewise, the networks want to make a killing on these events and are not proving to be too generous to charitable causes, in this case, women’s health issues. Therefore, as much as I want to debate Bernie Sanders – and it would be an easy payday – I will wait to debate the first place finisher in the Democratic Party, probably Crooked Hillary Clinton, or whoever it may be,” he explained.

The Donald Trump who was more than happy to debate Sanders earlier on, suddenly declined the debate. In addition to it, he also made an attempt to defend his position by saying he would first wait the democratic race to be over and then only debate with his left-wing rival.

That’s not the Donald Trump Americans are used to knowing. He rose into popularity by his quirky and unconventional demeanor and now he wants to drop all that and WAIT for democratic primary to be over even after making all those statements about how willing he was debate Bernie. This certainly does not add up.

The reasons behind his quick turn around may or may not have anything to do with Sanders but his remarks have made it clear that he is afraid of debating Bernie and it may be well because of the emerging polls where he is beaten fair and square by Sanders and he would not want to do anything to bolster his position.
