Update:

It’s rare that a plane crash results in a happy ending. Amazingly, the two passengers from yesterday’s plane crash in New Hampshire have been rescued! According to an updated report from CBS, the man and woman who occupied the small plane were rescued after the air craft crashed into the side of a mountain. The Warner, New Hampshire fire chief reports that the two are recovering and are currently in good spirits.

The plane was a two-seat American Champion air plane, and the crash took place in New Hampshire’s Chandler Reservation. The crash site was near Stewart’s Peak and the terrifying incident occurred at around 8 p.m. Sunday night.

According to nws reports, the pilot of the plane had made an attempt to turn the air craft back to the Concord Airport before the crash occurred. The Warner, New Hampshire fire chief, Ed Raymond, told reporters that both the pilot and his passenger are very lucky to be alive.

The female crash survivor used her cell phone to call 9-1-1 and rescue workers managed to use GPS to locate the scene of the incident. The search and rescue mission was said to be a challenging one, and incorporated the efforts of more than 50 people. The rescue group traversed rocky terrain and thick foliage in wooded areas to locate the crash site. Eight different fire departments were called to the scene to help carry the injured pair to safety.

“It looked like what they call a yard sale,” said Chief Raymond. “Everything was all over the place, including one wing still 30 feet in the air.”

“They were both in good spirits,” Chief Raymond said. “One was hurt more than the other, but I don’t think there are any life-threatening injuries at this time.”

The two are now recovering from the ordeal at a Concord, New Hampshire hospital.

It is currently believed that poor weather conditions played a major role in the events leading up to the crash. Fog had begun to set in and, when combined with the heavy cloud cover, it caused visibility to be heavily impaired.

This Memorial Day has become a work day for the federal investigators who are currently trying to determine the detailed cause of the crash.
