Ariana Grande Cancels Rock In Rio Performance: ‘I Have A Throat And Sinus Infection’

Singer Ariana Grande was apparently forced to break some bad news to her fans Saturday.

The Dangerous Woman singer confirmed that she could no longer perform live at her anticipated Rock in Rio show in Portugal. The singer’s previously scheduled set would have more than likely drawn a sizable crowd of fans, critics, and other spectators – especially considering the recent critical and commercial success of her newest studio album.

Sadly, though, Ariana Grande apparently had to back out of her performance on doctor’s orders for physical health reasons. Ariana opened up about her health condition and confirmed her performance cancellation in an official statement published and shared via social media.

“I’m deeply saddened to tell my babes in Portugal that I have to cancel my performance at Rock in Rio.”

Ariana even went as far as stating that she had “literally been crying over this for an hour” before posting the statement on social media. After she announced the news of her cancelled performance, the former Nickelodeon child TV star explained the reason for her cancellation.

“I have a throat & sinus infection & my doctors have advised me not to sing for a few days.”

Ariana Grande was scheduled to perform at Rock in Rio in Lisbon Sunday, a performance that many of her fans in Portugal were undoubtedly eager to witness firsthand.

Even though she had to break the sad news of her illness preventing her from performing, Ariana apparently tried to shine a silver lining in the dark cloud by offering a promise to conclude the same statement.

“I promise to make it up to you, and give you the best show I’m capable of when I return. Again, I’m sorry to the babes who were coming to see me. I love you with all my heart.”

Quite a few of Ariana Grande’s fans shared their sympathies and wishes for a speedy recovery from her sickness on Twitter.

Ariana Grande may not be feeling well physically due to her reported sinus infection. However, her recently released studio album Dangerous Woman is doing very well commercially. Ariana’s third full-length studio album debuted on the Billboard 200 chart in the No. 2 spot – falling second to Drake’s Views.

According to Billboard, Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman debuted with 175,000 equivalent album units – 129,000 of which were generated from traditional album sales. The commercial success of her album is not very surprising to the fans, critics, and industry experts that followed the success of her titular single.

The single allowed Ariana Grande to become the first artist in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart to have the lead single from each of her first three studio albums debut within the top 10. Her massive fan base continues to grow – especially within the expanding world of social media. Ariana Grande currently has over 71.4 million followers on Instagram, 38.8 million followers on Twitter and has generated over 4 billion views on her YouTube videos.
