Colorado Conductor Dies After Falling Off Royal Gorge Railroad Scenic Train In Canon Colorado


Colorado train conductor, Leslie Cacy, 28, died Saturday after falling off the back of a Royal Gorge Railroad Scenic Train, Colorado news station KKTV reports.

Colorado police are investigating the death involving the Royal Gorge Railroad Scenic Train. According to reports from the Colorado train, Cacy fell off the back of the train through an open door in the back then was subsequently ran over Saturday evening.

A Colorado sheriff’s office claimed that the train was only about four miles west of the station when the conductor died after falling out off the train.

Royal Gorge is dedicated to providing their passengers an aesthetic ride throughout the scenic Royal Gorge in Colorado.

Amid the vast beautiful landscape of the gorge, Colorado officials are still investigating the cause of the train accident currently. So far, the investigation suggests that no foul play is suspected in Cacy’s death, including no indication of drug or alcohol use.

One passenger, Cynthia Brier, was aboard the Colorado scenic route train when the horrific incident that left the conductor dead transpired. She noted that the train’s engineer’s reaction indicated that something wasn’t right.

“We saw the engineer of the train, he was in the grass next to the train holding his head screaming. There were people running over to him and assisting him, helping him stand up. Then it became apparent something really bad had happened.”

Brier added that the scene was grim as she gave her condolences to the conductor.

“You could see a lot of the paramedics coming up and they were being restrained. Obviously they knew her. It was a horrifying experience and we just feel horrible for the family and definitely will be keeping them in our prayers.”

Coroners in Fremont County, Colorado report that the conductor is from the Canon City area in Colorado. After identifying her, coroners contacted her husband with the upsetting news as an autopsy is already scheduled for next week.

Officials in Colorado say there were about 200 passengers on the train at the time of the conductor’s deadly accident. All passengers were evacuated from the train at around 9 p.m.

Other passengers aboard the train who witnessed the conductor’s death applauded the train’s staff on handling the situation.

“The staff, they were wonderful. There were several kids on the train in our car alone, screaming crying, they fed everybody and made sure everyone had drinks. They even brought in a service dog to comfort the children,” Brier said.

The train company which the incident occurred under, Royal Gorge Railroad, gave a statement on the conductors death:

“We are absolutely devastated by the loss of our team member who died yesterday in an accident on the train. We have been working around the clock with authorities to figure out exactly what happened. Right now, our focus is on helping the Fremont County Sheriff’s office do its job, and taking care of our team. We will not be running the train for the next few days, and anyone with reservations will be refunded or may reschedule. We are a family run business, and our team members are like family to us. Our hearts are broken. We will share more information as soon as we have it.”

The Colorado train station said on Sunday that it has suspended service for the next several days so authorities can thoroughly investigate.
