Boy George Addresses The Rumor That He Slept With Prince And Slams Modern Pop Music

It was roughly a year ago when the rumor of Boy George sleeping with Prince originally surfaced. While Boy George was a coach on The Voice UK last year, he and his fellow coach, Paloma Faith, were having a conversation about who they had performed with in the past. Faith said, “Well, OK, if we’re throwing big soul names out there I’ve performed with Prince.” Boy George replied, “Forget that, darling, I’ve slept with Prince.”

According to Queerty, the statement made by Boy George caused enough drama on the set of The Voice UK that producers decide to halt recording so they could have a private conversation with George about what he said during the conversation with Paloma.

This week, during an interview with Wendy Williams, Boy George sat down to discuss the moment on The Voice UK where he claimed to have slept with Prince.

Prince and Boy George fans alike were not too surprised when this rumor of Boy George sleeping with Prince resurfaced after Prince suddenly passed away recently.

During the interview on the Wendy Williams Show, Williams brought up the rumor she had her about Boy George sleeping with Prince and asked him if it were true. He was very quick to respond in a laughing manner that it was just a joke. When asking the question, Williams did make it clear that Boy George claimed to have slept with Prince (joking or otherwise) before Prince passed away.

“Of course that’s not true. It was a joke.”

Boy George claimed that the joke was nothing more than an attempt to look better than Paloma Faith so he could get the contestants to join his team instead of hers. He did go on to say that he did kind of sleep with Prince because he slept with a poster of Prince under him. So, his statement wasn’t completely false.

“I’m a massive Prince fan. I met him once in Italy and he was suitably eccentric. He was exactly what you’d expect him to be. He was Prince!”

When Wendy asked Boy George if he thought Prince liked him, George responded by saying he really wasn’t sure and couldn’t tell whether or not Prince liked him.

According to Mirror, the recent Boy George news does not stop there as he recently blasted modern pop music by claiming Ed Sheeran and Adele “only real organic artists left.” According to Boy George, modern pop music has gotten so “formulaic.” He claims it was easier in the 1970s when “there were no hand-and-fast rules.”

“Everything is quite formulaic now, it’s almost like we all know the way it works. Back in the ’70s we all believed there was a wizard behind the curtain.”

Boy George also criticized how fast and loose the term celebrity was being used. According to George, there is a massive difference between Kim Kardashian and the late David Bowie.

Boy George admitted that he does not even really consider himself to be a celebrity and does not like being referred to as one.

“I don’t like being called a celebrity. To be a celebrity you don’t really necessarily have to do very much. You can be quite pretty, gobby or a car crash. To be an artist you have to have some ability and something to say. I’m not even making any judgment about those people because I like it, I enjoy it like everybody else does. But for me there is a definite, definite difference between David Bowie and Kim Kardashian. Let’s just get that clear.”
