Jeremy Renner Excited To Play Screen Legend Steve McQueen In Upcoming Biopic

Jeremy Renner, the star of recent box-office hits The Bourne Legacy and The Avengers, is reportedly on-tap to star as Steve McQueen in an upcoming biopic, according to Cinema Blend. The versatile actor has tackled a number of high-profile roles as of late including a role in the Tom Cruise franchise Mission: Impossible. Although it’s easy to pigeonhole the actor as potential modern-day action hero, his turns in both The Town and The Hurt Locker suggest that his talents don’t begin and end with superheroes and explosions.

While promoting The Bourne Legacy in New Zealand, Renner spilled the proverbial beans on the upcoming Steve McQueen movie that’s currently in the works. The film, which is based on author Marshall Terrill’s book Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel, will reportedly be a “slice of life” tale as opposed to a straightforward biography.

“I think he’s an icon. I’ve seen quite a few of his movies and I just thought he would be a really interesting guy to explore,” Renner explained to NZ City. “Biopics are really tough – it’s hard to tell someone’s life story in two hours. He was a walking dichotomy: the most stingy and frugal person, and then the most giving. And his upbringing was interesting.”

In addition to the Steve McQueen movie, Renner has a number of projects lined up for next year. This January, Renner will star opposite Gemma Arterton and Peter Stormare in Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Additionally, the Ghost Protocol co-star is rumored to be attached to Mission: Impossible 5, though nothing about this particular project has been set in stone as of this writing.
