‘Fast & Furious 8’: Dwayne Johnson Gives A First Look At Hobbs

Dwayne Johnson took a nod from Sons of Anarchy in the first look at Hobbs’ return in Fast & Furious 8, reported Entertainment Weekly. Johnson debuted his new look, via Instagram, along with a message to fans.

“When you strip a man of all he has. All that’s important to him. You force him to return to his roots and sometimes that’s a very dangerous and twisted place. If I was going to return for another [Fast & Furious] I wanted to come in and disrupt the franchise in a cool way that got fans fired up and their blood pumping to see a new version of Hobbs and his ‘Daddy’s gotta go to work’ mentality and set the table in a cool way for where the character goes in the future.”

Production for Fast & Furious 8 is well underway. Johnson made his debut in the Fast & Furious franchise in Fast Five as a government bounty hunter. He reprised his role in Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7. As Fast & Furious 8 was contemplated, producers had to consider how Johnson would fit in with the original cast.

It appears that the key to Johnson’s return is evolving his character of Hobbs. Johnson unveiled the first look at the character from Fast & Furious 8 during an Instagram tease. The Hobbs that fans will meet in installment eight is a very different character. It appears he may be a bit darker when the storyline picks up after the team barely escaped with their lives in Furious 7.

Moreover, there has been talk of a Hobbs-centric spinoff since Fast Five. Johnson has teased the concept in Facebook posts as well, offering three seemingly equal possible outcomes. He teased maybe Hobbs will have a spinoff. Another scenario suggest that no spinoff will occur and Hobbs joins the Fast & Furious franchise. Lastly he teased that if the former concepts do not manifest, Hobbs would simply leave the franchise. With his recent success, and another release co-starring comedian Kevin Hart called Central Intelligence on the way, any outcome is possible.

The plot around the eighth installment of Fast & Furious was speculated that Jason Statham, playing the role of Deckard Shaw, will be broken out of prison. Theron will reportedly play the role of Cipher and it seems she will exceed the meanness level of Deckard Shaw and all other villains of the franchise. Shaw might even find a safe haven among Toretto’s group.

Award-winning actress Charlize Theron will play the biggest and baddest villain of Fast & Furious 8, reports Collider. A new behind the scenes video of the Fast & Furious 8 was released online one week after their historic filming in Cuba last month. The new video shows Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Kurt Russell, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Ludacris. The video also showed Scott Eastwood and Jason Statham. The film will be directed by F. Gary Gray.

In addition to Charlize Theron, Kristofer Hivju and Lucas Black will join the cast. Black is expected to reprise his Sean Boswell role that was introduced during Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift. The concept of Fast & Furious 8 is reportedly moving from the heist-centric focus back to the street racing, reports Master Herald.

After filming in Cuba, the gang will reportedly go to Atlanta, then New York City which is going to be the main setting for the film. Fast & Furious 8 will be the first of the concluding trilogy to be released on April 17, 2017. Fast & Furious 9 is expected to hit theaters on April 19, 2019, and Fast & Furious 10 shall be hitting cinemas on April 2, 2021.
