Gwyneth Paltrow And Chris Martin Settle On Joint Custody Of Children

It was starting to seem like Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin would remain in separation limbo forever, but their divorce has been finalized, freeing up both Paltrow and Martin to live their lives apart from one another. Even with the divorce settlement in place, however, Gwyneth and Chris are still bonded together by their children, Apple, 12, and Moses, 10, and the arrangement the consciously uncoupled pair has made to help their children feel loved and involved in a complete, functional family.

It Took Two Years, But Gwyneth Paltrow And Chris Martin Are Finally Divorced

The Iron Man actress and the Coldplay singer reached an amicable divorce settlement and only await a judge’s signature, before their divorce will officially be finalized. Rejecting any provisions for spousal support, Paltrow and Martin have instead agreed upon joint custody of their children, meaning that little will change as far as Apple and Moses are concerned. The divorce settlement might not have taken as long as it did, but both Gwyneth and Martin wanted to keep the details of their divorce as private as possible, and, to that effect, the couple secretly negotiated the details of the divorce arrangement between themselves.

Martin and Paltrow have always been private, as her 2014 announcement of their dissolving union indicated.

“We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner,” Paltrow wrote on her Goop website at the time.

During the two years of divorce negotiations, each partner has moved on to find romance with others. Gwyneth has been involved with American Horror Story and Scream Queens producer Brad Falchuk for most of that two year period, while Martin has been linked to a few different actresses, including Jennifer Lawrence, and more recently, 31-year-old Annabelle Wallis.

Through the years of separation, Gwyneth and Chris have come together for the happiness of their children, reuniting as a family for holidays, birthdays, and vacations. As Paltrow has said many times, she and Martin are still very close and love one another in a non-romantic way, which makes it easier to give their children the complete family they need.

Chris Martin And Gwyneth Paltrow Reunite For Daughter Apple’s Disneyland Birthday

Apple Martin turned 12 just before Paltrow and Chris Martin finalized their divorce, and as far as she and her brother were concerned, it was business as usual. The entire family spent Apple’s 12th birthday at Disneyland and Gwyneth took a nice sampling of pictures to mark the occasion. Ms. Paltrow shared the pictures of Apple’s birthday celebration with her Instagram followers and even managed to capture a picture of herself and soon to be ex-husband Chris Martin hiding from their endlessly energetic children.

Some might expect divorce to change the way Martin and Paltrow handle their parenting duties, but they each seem quite content with the way their own unique definition of family has evolved over the past few years. As much as some outsiders have attempted to thwart their attempts at keeping the family united, Paltrow and Martin have managed to stand together and remain strong for the sake of the children. As Apple and Moses grow older and begin to understand the sacrifices and the effort both Gwyneth and Chris have put forth to ensure their happiness, it will undoubtedly have a positive effect on their growing, impressionable minds and their own ideas of what it means to be in a relationship.

The day at Disneyland perfectly captures how Gwyneth and Chris Martin relate to one another, just as it exemplifies their attitudes towards parenting and towards keeping the family as bonded as possible. Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow may be divorced, but, together with Apple and Moses, they seem happier than the majority of traditional families.
