Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm has invested $10 million into BrightSource energy as part of a $115 million round.

BrightSource Energy designs and builds large scale solar plants that deliver low-cost solar energy in the form of steam and/or electricity. The energy delivered is focused on being competitive with fossil fuels, making it economically appealing to industrial and utility customers.

Google said that solar thermal energy generation is a key emerging industry in addressing environmental issues. The investment is part of Google’s REC initiative.
