Tropical Storm Isaac is raining on the GOP’s parade. The Republican National Convention officially kicked-off today, only to go into recess for the rest of the day, thanks to the storm.

Republican National Convention Chairman Reince Priebus officially started the proceedings with a gavel strike today, only to adjourn about 10 minutes later, according to NBC. The hall was mostly empty, thanks to Tropical Storm Isaac. Republicans are still planning on a full convention, weather permitting, primarily to pose their indictment of President Barack Obama’s first term in an effort to contrast him with Mitt Romney.

“What we would want to do is define what President Obama has done over the last four years, how and why he’s failed, and why his leadership has really failed the American people,” Russ Schriefer, a strategist for Romney’s campaign, told reporters on Monday. “Stagnant economy, increasing debt, you know, and more importantly, the disappointment that many Americans feel in President Obama that he just hasn’t lived up to the promises of the past four years.”

Since Isaac is expected to hit New Orleans nearly-exactly seven years after Katrina, many (including Republicans and the presidential ticket of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan) are calling for some pause with the RNC to focus on the victims of the storm, according to Politico. After all, how would it look if the RNC pushes forward during a potential national emergency?

Representative Aaron Schock (R – IL) even thinks that a shortened RNC in light of Isaac might bring more nationwide attention to the right.
