Khloe Kardashian Proceeds With Divorce From Lamar Odom, Sticks With James Harden

Khloe Kardashian was just waiting for the right time to file divorce proceedings against estranged husband Lamar Odom. The documents were filed in a Los Angeles court on Thursday, May 26.

According to People magazine, the news shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, who recently dated Houston Rockets guard James Harden, never had any intention of going back to the former basketball player.

“This was always the plan,” the source claimed. “The divorce has never been officially off. Khloé was waiting for the timing to be right.”

Khloe Kardashian had filed for divorce against Lamar Odom in December of 2013 amid widespread rumors of his cheating and drug dependence. A clip of the former Los Angeles Lakers champ rapping about cheating made its way to YouTube.

In August of that year, the 36-year-old basketball player was arrested on DUI charges. He was later sentenced to three years of probation, and required to attend alcohol counseling sessions.

The estranged couple was seen several times together after the filing, which prompted the reports that they were getting back together and giving their marriage a second chance. Out of nowhere, however, James Harden entered the picture.

Then Lamar Odom was found unconscious in a Las Vegas brothel due to a reported drug overdose before lapsing into a coma. Khloe Kardashian, who was still married to the basketball star at that point, rushed to his bedside and played a very publicized role in his recovery.

In October of last year, Khloe Kardashian’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, asked the court to drop the divorce proceedings in light of Lamar Odom’s condition. The petition was done without prejudice, which basically means that at any point, it could be refiled.

“This is a very delicate and difficult time for both Lamar and Khloé,” the statement published on USA Today said. “The most sensible thing to do at such a time is not make any big moves and put everything on hold.”

Khloe Kardashian also explained to KIIS FM in May this year that the reasoning behind the withdrawal of the divorce petition had nothing to do with giving their marriage a second chance. But she thought that it was very insensitive to go through with the whole proceeding while Lamar Odom was still recovering.

Meanwhile, she also said that through all the circus, James Harden has always been there for her.

“He’s been very supportive with everything. There’s of course times where I’m sure he was really uncomfortable about some of the things, but I’m a very honest person and I have nothing to hide and I was very open with how I feel like I had to handle everything with Lamar,” she added.

Now, Khloe Kardashian is filing a divorce against Lamar Odom for the second time, and still using the same reason: irreconcilable differences, according to TMZ. There seem to be no roadblocks to the petition, considering there’s a prenup in place for the former couple, and they have no children together. They also worked out any differences the first time she filed for divorce.

“Now it’s just a waiting game. In California, a divorce cannot become final until six months after it’s filed,” it said.

The report claimed that Khloe Kardashian told Lamar Odom beforehand about her plan to file the papers. Also, the 31-year-old is asking the court if she could revert back to her maiden name. What apparently expedited the decision to finally dissolve the marriage, TMZ added, was when photos of the former basketball star drinking alcohol again were leaked to the press.
