WWE: Ric Flair May Soon Be In For The Fight Of His Life

Ric Flair has had a career of highs and lows, with the latest coming in the form of a humiliating kayfabe (maybe) takedown by his daughter on the last episode of Monday Night Raw.

While he hasn’t always been the recipient of good fortune, he’ll be one of the first to tell you that he’s brought a lot of troubles on himself through his wheeling, dealing, limousine-riding, jet airplane-flying lifestyle.

More than once he has overspent and found himself in the position of having to borrow money from the McMahons or being unable to pay his court-mandated alimony payments.

Now it appears those behaviors could be catching up with him as he prepares to attend an autograph signing on July 23 at the Sands in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Cary Silkin, the former owner of Ring of Honor before Sinclair purchased the company, is still stymied by an unpaid debt that Ric Flair allegedly still owes.

As of Thursday night, May 26, Ric Flair has not responded to the claim, but for those of you who are unfamiliar with Silkin’s reference, Cageside Seats has a good rundown on the history.

The ROH lawsuit filed against “The Nature Boy” in 2010 states that Flair took a $10,000 advance for a house show in Montreal which he would later no-show. Additionally, he received $35,000 for television appearances during which he was to play an authority figure for the company.

Ric later claimed that his WWE contract would not allow him to fill the role and ended up making only one appearance before meeting the terms of the agreement.

Sinclair dropped the case after purchasing Ring of Honor from Silkin in 2011, but the former owner claims that Ric Flair still owes him the $41,000.

With Silkin threatening to show up at the autograph signing, things could quickly devolve and maybe even get physical. With an estimated net worth of $5 million, Flair could probably afford the payment, but it is likely he would have already if he intended to do so.

In the meantime, the Nature Boy continues to work with the WWE, though it appears that he will be disengaging from his role as Charlotte’s valet.

On Monday night, the WWE Women’s Champion lambasted her father for all the years that he spent on the road away from his family and said that to her, he was “dead.”

Flair left the ring in tears in what was clearly an emotional angle with Charlotte herself fighting to hold it together as she tore into her father.

This isn’t the first time that WWE has used Flair family trauma to build interest in its product. Earlier in Charlotte’s run during a feud with Paige, the latter made light of Charlotte’s brother, Reid’s, overdose death in 2013, stating that “your brother didn’t have much fight in him did he?”

Critics hammered the WWE for not informing Ric Flair and Reid’s mother for permission to bring up Reid’s death in a storyline. The company was quick to drop the angle shortly thereafter.

For the most part, Ric Flair remains popular in the WWE, getting cheers and “woos” wherever he goes, but he has received some criticism for staying in the game too long.

If Silkin has his way, the 16-time world champion may need one more engagement to rid himself of the six-year debt. But what do you think, readers?

Should Ric Flair pay off Silkin in spite of being under no seeming obligation to do so? Sound off in the comments section below.
