North Carolina Mother, 22, Arrested After Admitting To Suffocating Four-Day-Old Baby Boy To Death Because He Wouldn’t Stop Crying

A North Carolina mother, Aishia Marie Pacheco, 22, is facing murder charges after she admitted to suffocating her newborn baby to death because he wouldn’t stop crying, according to the Daily Mail. At approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, a resident of a home in the Wittenburg Community called 911 about an unresponsive newborn baby.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, they tried desperately to save the newborn baby, but it was to no avail. Four-day-old Tyler Isaiah Pacheco was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, Pacheco of Taylorsville, later admitted to police officials that she suffocated her newborn baby to death because he wouldn’t stop crying.

Alexander County police officials arrested the new mother at the scene, and she is now facing murder charges.

Wednesday morning, while holding back tears, Sheriff Chris Bowman told reporters that the North Carolina mother admitted to suffocating her baby to death because it wouldn’t stop crying. He went on to say that “she held the baby up to her chest because the baby had been crying and actually smothered the child.”

Pacheco made her first court appearance Wednesday morning, where she told a judge that “it was an accident” and said “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to do it,” according to WBTV.

Before the North Carolina woman admitted to suffocating her newborn baby to death because he wouldn’t stop crying, she published a post via Facebook on the day she took her baby home for the first time on May 23.

She wrote, “My little boy Tyler Isaiah and I finally got to come home today. He is doing great and I love him so much.”

“I’m learning a lot with him and I’m so proud to be his mom. Labor was tough and recovery is even tougher, but I’m doing it for my son. Thank you mom and dad for helping me with everything, including how to be a great mother to my son. Love you guys!”

Many social media users were outraged following Pacheco’s Facebook post after learning she admitted to murdering her own baby.

One Facebook user Stacey Maxwell stated, “Learning a lot with him? You learned how to become a murderer, you got to change his diaper what maybe 10 times before you killed him? Did you get to learn how to give him a bath or learn how to feed him with a spoon? Oh no, that’s right you killed him.”

“I hope your family write to you in jail and lets you know how the world feels about you. I hope you spend your evenings crying and feeling helpless just like your poor baby.”

While several social media users bashed the North Carolina mom for suffocating her newborn baby to death, one Facebook Bayy Nicole came to her defense, stating that although she committed a “terrible crime and should be punished,” her actions may have stemmed from mental issues.

She said, “It’s almost apparent by a few of her posts that something happened. I think maybe it’s not as much her fault as it was her mental state that ultimately drove her to it. I mean, nobody in their right mind just kills a baby for no reason.”

“I’m not trying to defend her, but I’m also not going to point my finger and curse at her and wish death upon her. I hope she finds the help she needs and that the entire family can find some kind of peace with everything.”

The newborn baby was later taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem for an autopsy. Meanwhile, Aishia Marie Pacheco is currently being held at the Alexander County jail on second-degree murder charges. Her bail is set at $1 million.
