Lydia Ko became the youngest player in LPGA history this weekend when she won the CN Canadian Open at 15 years, four months, and two days old.

According to the Vancouver Sun, Ko claimed her victory at the CN Canadian Women’s Open against 48 of the top 50 players on this year’s money list.

Ko said:

“It feels amazing…. It’s always awesome to be able to play with the pros, but it’s great to win. The last few holes it got a little bit nerve-racking.”

Ko is the first amateur to win an LPGA Tour event since 1969. She is also 16 months younger than Lexi Thompson who set the record last September when she won at 16-years-old.

Since Ko is an amateur she couldn’t claim the $300,000 check. That money went to Inbee Park of South Korea who finished three strokes behind Ko.

And it could be a while until Ko gets to pocket a $300,000 check. The 15-year-old phenom said that despite her record breaking win she still plans on finishing high school and going to college.

Ko said:

“I don’t think any of my plans will change…. I’ll still remain an amateur and then finish high school and then go to college in the States. I mean, this is a great win, but I don’t think this will affect me changing my routes to my career.”
