Suggs, 29, reportedly injured his Achilles tendon while playing basketball in April.

While the news of the Ravens’ decision to place Suggs on the PUP is certainly no surprise, Rant Sports points out that it has to be encouraging for the organization and their fans considering tearing your Achilles is usually a season ending injury.

Following his injury, Suggs initially vowed he would play this season.

“Middle to end of October,” he told the reporters after his surgery in May. “Definitely beginning of November. I love how you guys [media] are saying out for the season. Just gonna make my comeback that much bigger.”

Suggs, Baltimore’s 10th overall pick in the 2003 NFL draft, had 14 sacks and 70 tackles, forced seven fumbles and had two interceptions in the Ravens’ 12-4 season in 2011. Prior to his injury, he had played in all 16 games in eight of his nine seasons in the NFL.

Besides Terrell Suggs, the Ravens also placed wide receiver David Reed (ACL) on the PUP list while linebackers Stevie Baggs and Darryl Blackstock, safety Emanuel Cook and defensive tackle Ryan McBean were placed on injured reserve.

The Ravens, who had 81 players on their roster after Sunday’s cuts, made the PUP moves Monday in order to reduce their total toward the 75-player maximum by the 4 pm deadline.

All NFL teams must trim their rosters to 53 by August 31 at 9 pm.
