Studio Wildcard continues to push out update for ARK: Survival Evolved on the Xbox One. Patch 736.0 landed for the console edition of the dinosaur survival game Tuesday, with fixes to a nasty bug that affected game saves and spawn issues on The Center (guide). Some new features were added as well, such as being able to pick up and toss dodos and the new Bola was tweaked.
The ARK: Survival Evolved 736.0 patch has been deployed and weighs in as a 1.6GB download for Xbox One owners. The servers were also brought down, and players should see them up with a fresh new set of dinosaurs on The Center map by the time this article is posted.
The developer elected to destroy all of the existing wild dinosaurs on servers running The Center to deal with “out of control” spawners around Lava Island and other spots on the map. This caused an overabundance of animals, which caused issues with both performance and the ability for players to get around. This was especially killer for Xbox One owners running their own dedicated server, as the large population of dinosaurs could cause the console turned into a server to crash.
More importantly, the save issue for single-player and non-dedicated servers for ARK: Survival Evolved has been addressed with this patch. The previous patch broke the file path for the save, and owners should now have access to the previous saves before the patch. Unfortunately, dedicated server owners were forced to start all over, though Studio Wildcard promises the fix ensures these servers will not be wiped again.
The ability to pick up and throw Dodos, Dung Beetles, and Kairuku (aka penguins) has also been added with this patch. The Arthropluera (guide) also received the ability to be set as a turret. This allows players to leave the Giant Millipede in one place to act as a defender against attacks from other players or creatures.
The addition of the Bola as a weapon has been a boon to the early game of ARK: Survival Evolved. It has made dealing with predators like the Dilo and Raptor easier, along with taming or killing herbivores that tend to run away. Studio Wildcard thanks it is a little overpowered against other players, though, and is reducing the time humans are trapped from 30 seconds to 15 seconds. Additionally, a little bit of Hide is now required to craft the weapon in an attempt to balance it somewhat.
In server news, Studio Wildcard plans to bring on additional servers for The Center and bringing back older servers to their original state, per a Twitter post from Lead Developer Jeremy Stieglitz. This includes Hardcore PVP servers, according to Community Manager Jen, who notes the new servers may not come online until tomorrow.
Here are the official patch notes for the ARK: Survival Evolved update on the Xbox One.
- Fixed singleplayer/non-dedi saving on TheCenter (this will not wipe player dedicateds again!)
- Added Dodo, Kairuku, & Dung Beetle pickup & toss
- Added Arthropluera Turret AI mode
- Fixed some out-of-control TheCenter spawners, and added resources to Skull Island on TheCenter. (For the time being recommend that Player Dedis run ‘cheat destroywilddinos’ command to avoid the out of control spawners)
- Automatically Fixed Player Dedi saves that could become too large due to out of control spawners
- Fixed another case of audio clipping
- Reduced Bola timer on humans by 50%, since humans are dexterous enough to get out of a bola more quickly. Also made Bola take a little Hide to craft.
