‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Releases New 5-Minute Trailer [Video]

Independence Day: Resurgence has released a gigantic new trailer that shows the movie could be much more than just a single sequel. The stakes, which were a global event in the first film from 1996, have now been raised, and the new batch of alien invaders now have a new type of gravity weapon on their side.

What was clear from the first Independence Day was that the people of Earth were certainly not equipped to protect themselves from the alien invasion. Although in the end, the people won from a computer virus. But suffice it to say that the people of Earth got lucky in the first Independence Day.

In the new Independence Day trailer, the aliens aren’t so much returning, but rather there will be reinforcements coming to Earth to make another stand against the people of the planet. But this time, they brought a global sized army with them.

Independence Day: Resurgence is really about how the people of Earth have lived the past 20 years with the technology that has been left over from the alien invasion that nearly wiped them out. There is one thing that is common to all people of Earth and that is the ability to learn from their mistakes, which includes gathering information about their enemies and using their own weapons against them.

The real heroes from the first Independence Day were played by actors Jeff Goldblum, Will Smith, Bill Pullman, and Vivica Fox. With all of them returning, minus Will Smith, the ensemble will be living another day to fight against an alien species that has no doubt come back to cause utter destruction on the planet. There are no limits that these heroes will not go to in order to successfully defend their planet, which includes destroying the alien race, if possible.

There will also be a new ensemble of heroes added to the Independence Day: Resurgence cast list this year, which includes Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Joey King, and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Although the original heroes will be playing a major role in this film, the new ensemble will be filling out major roles in the film with some devastating sequences of alien action and violence.

The extended five-minute trailer shows a little more detail about what fans can expect from this sequel to Independence Day. There are actually some scenes in it that make it just as creepy as the M. Night Shyamalan film, Signs.

One of the scenes from the Independence Day trailer that was quite creepy was when the people were watching an alien who was showing foreign emotion that was falsely identified at first. But it showed them appearing to celebrate a premature victory over the human race.

There was also something very interesting of note in the Independence Day trailer that has not been featured in any of the previous trailers. That was when Goldblum’s character led a team into an investigation during an attack. The main alien ship that had shown up for the attack was in fact so big that it had its won gravitational pull, much like the Earth and the Moon does. Once entering the Earth’s atmosphere, the gravitational pull was so substantial that it wreaks havoc and chaos on the surface, causing people and things to get sucked into the air.

It was also discovered in the Independence Day: Resurgence trailer that the original ships that the people destroyed back in 1996 had started sending out a distress call, which appears to be the reason the alien race has returned for the last leg of a war that the people thought they had won.

Independence Day: Resurgence will be hitting the film circuit early this year, just ahead of the July 4 festivities on June 23.
