‘Uncharted 4’ Breaks A Record: More Than 2.7 Million Units Sold In Its First Week

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is setting records and taking over the charts.

In a report by IGN, Uncharted 4 has sold more than 2.7 million units in its first week. The reviews have been nothing short of great, and Nathan Drake is picking up steam as he punches and kicks his way to the top of the gaming mountain.

It’s no surprise that this action-adventure game was highly anticipated. The original release date was changed for development purposes, and many took the fact that they had to wait as a painful blow.

It was a two-week delay, but that can be an eternity for those who wanted to jump back into the eyes of the veteran treasure hunter. Now that Nathan’s greatest adventure to date has been unleashed onto consoles everywhere, players and critics are racking up hours of playtime. There’s shooting, running, jumping, and conflict to be had at every turn. There’s also the fact that this appears to be the final game in the series, but details further than that will be left for players to discover through playing the game for themselves.

If you’re unfamiliar with Uncharted 4, the game is an epic tale of family, trust, and everything that could get in-between. The game is set three years after Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Nathan Drake, the main protagonist in the series, is on the hunt to uncover historical mysteries. A treasure hunter with cunning and a mouth that gets him in trouble, he comes across many allies and enemies who assist and hinder progress along the way.

Naughty Dog, the developer behind Drake and his adventures, has made it easy for fans new and old to get the complete experience. Players can purchase Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, which contains the Uncharted games that came before Uncharted 4. It’s even bundled with a PlayStation 4, giving even more accessibility for players to catch up and jump on the hype train.

The fact that Uncharted 4 has sold more than 2.7 million units in its first week is a record. According to Polygon, that makes it the fastest-selling first-party PlayStation 4 game ever. This is huge, given that there are so many titles on PlayStation 4 that could easily be considered a contender for such a spot.

“A huge congratulations goes out to Naughty Dog for an incredible feat. The success of the game is a testament to the caliber of the team at Naughty Dog and their unwavering commitment to their fans,” PlayStation Blog wrote.

The sales that Uncharted 4 have acquired are worldwide. These numbers reflect the copies that have been sold both physically and digitally. If that doesn’t give you a sense of Naughty Dog’s accomplishment, then consider this: current sales figures only include those made through May 16. Uncharted 4 was released on May 10, making it an extremely impressive feat for such a short amount of time.

The single-player campaign for Uncharted 4 is lengthy, and there’s also the multiplayer aspect to consider when thinking about picking up the game. There are multiple modes such as Team Deathmatch, Command, and Plunder. While they don’t shy far from your average range of objectives, it’s a nice change of pace if games such as Call of Duty aren’t satisfactory.

All in all, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is shaping up to be one of Naughty Dog’s best. Looking toward the future, Nathan Drake and friends may be in the running for quite a few awards when the time comes. Of course, it’s only speculation. But if the sales are any indication, you can be sure that the Uncharted series is worth every penny.
