‘Grimm’ Season 5 Finale Recap And Spoilers: The Plot Thickens

Grimm season 5 ended with a “To Be Continued…” parting shot as “The Beginning of the End” a two-part episode brought the curtains down to what has been an epic season of adventure and drama.

That title card at the end implies that Grimm season 6 will pick up things from where they stopped in the Season 5 finale with detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) and Captain/Mayor Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) at loggerheads.

The season finale was one of the most action-packed episodes of the series with Nick and his team battling against a Wesen-led police post in the North before finally completing the battle at Nick’s residence.

Nick Burkhardt, with the help of Diana (Hannah R. Loyd), managed to kill Bonaparte (Shaun Toub, Homeland, Iron Man, and Crash). This was a significant win for the team opposed to Black Claw, especially after the leftist multi-global organization destroyed the HW headquarters and killed Meisner (Damien Puckler).

While the death of one of the recurring characters in the show appeared to capture the headlines, there is another side of the story that may have gone unnoticed, which could be crucial in the series’ next season.

It all revolves around the powers of “The Stick” and the relationship between Adalind (Claire Coffee), Diana, Nick and Sean Renard. In the Grimm Season 5 finale, “The Stick” demonstrated some new powers by effectively curing Eve/Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch) of her hexenbiest powers. At least that is what it looked like at the end, but of course, a lot more could be revealed in Season 6 of Grimm including where the tunnel beneath Nick’s residence leads to.

So what does this mean? It possibly means that “The Stick” holds the power to remove certain Wesen powers from people. At the moment, Diana appears to have good intentions to people who have no plans of hurting her biological parents, Adalind and Renard, so that means that she could potentially be harmless unless provoked.

However, the limits of her powers are yet to be determined and it is unclear what they could do to her human side with time. At the moment, she is said to be three-quarters hexenbiest and one-quarter human. So what happens if the hexenbiest side eventually takes over her actions? She could be dangerous in which case “The Stick” could be used to take out her powers.

Now, on the other hand, there could be another development in the storyline, or better still, a resurrection of an old chapter, which seemed to disappear when Juliette/Eve became a hexenbiest. Now that she is human again, and Adalind has regained her hexenbiest powers, does Juliette resume her relationship with Nick? That’s a huge possibility.

Ideally, towards the end of Grimm Season 5, it appeared as though Eve/Juliette was beginning to care more about what happens to Nick, while Adalind, has obviously moved in with Renard, albeit involuntarily. In addition, Diana wants her biological parents to live together and given her powers, it’s unlikely anyone would be willing to come between the two.

On the other hand, Nick would be unwilling to let go of his son, Kelly, as would be Adalind. So what happens to him? At the moment, it would be more dangerous if Diana was too attached to her little brother as she is to her parents, but she is not, so that leaves a window for Nick to take back Kelly.

It also makes sense that Juliette/Eve is now back to her former self, in which case she could move in back with Nick and help raise his son. Is this why Grimm creators took her hexenbiest powers away? It could be. In any case, it would be interesting to see Juliette and Rosalee (Bree Turner) working with the little ones as they rebuild their relationship, which obviously ended badly in Grimm Season 4.
