The Who’s the Boss? star wants to be the boss.

Actor Tony Danza, best known for starring in the TV sitcoms Who’s the Boss? and Taxi, is considering running for mayor of New York City.

Danza was born and grew up in Brooklyn until his family moved to Long Island when he was 14. He is currently a NYC resident.

Danza, 61, showed up at the premiere of the new Joseph Gordon-Levitt film Premium Rush and discussed his City Hall aspirations with The Wall Street Journal:

“I’m of a certain age, and you see things, and you think maybe you could help. “You say: ‘Let me fix the city. Let me run for Mayor.’”

“I’m concerned, I’m up-to-date, I read the papers. But could I stand the scrutiny? I’m not sure. It’s a tough job. And it’s not like anybody’s asking me.”

A supporter of the bike-share program and a rollerblader, Danza wants less cars in the city and more people using mass transit.

Tony Danza didn’t reveal under which party banner he’d run (if he runs), and also told the WSJ that he’s never made a campaign donation to a politician. This assertion, however, is apparently contradicted by the Zimbio.com website, which states the following:

Actor Tony Danza [is] a registered Republican and comes from a conservative Italian family in Brooklyn. Campaign contribution reports show he’s given generous donations to Republican candidates, including George W. Bush.

Another celebrity, Alec Baldwin, has also made noises about running for mayor, but it probably will never happen.

The incumbent New York City mayor, Michael Bloomberg, a Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Independent, is term limited and, as such, by law can not run for re-election.
