Cinemax Releases Pilot Episode of Robert Kirkman’s ‘Outcast’ Two Weeks Early

If you can’t wait any longer for the latest TV series from Robert Kirkman, Outcast, then your prayers have been answered. Cinemax has released the very first episode on YouTube and Facebook — free of charge — so you can get hooked on the show before its official premiere on June 3, 2016.

At 10 p.m. CET, Cinemax debuted the pilot episode – entitled “A Darkness Surrounds Him” – of Season 1 of Outcast on Facebook Live and YouTube across several countries, including the U.K., Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, and South Africa according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Outcast is the latest TV series from Robert Kirkman, the man who brought us the zombie apocalypse series The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead. And, as per The Walking Dead, Outcast is another series inspired by one of Kirkman’s comic book series. And it is The Walking Dead, as well as fans of the comic books the show is based on, that the Fox Network thanks for what they hope is a built-in fan base for Outcast.

“Thanks to The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman has created an army of fans throughout the region,” Diego Londono, COO of Fox Networks Group for Europe and Africa, told The Hollywood Reporter. “Fox is known for ‘The Best, First’ and by partnering with Facebook, we are giving the fans the chance to watch the new show at the same time across Europe and Africa.”

The full synopsis for Outcast is below.

Outcast follows Kyle Barnes, a young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson, a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate — and the fate of the world — forever.”

“Patrick Fugit (“Gone Girl”) stars as Barnes, a man searching for answers, and for redemption, who sequesters himself from those he loves for fear of causing greater hurt. Philip Glenister (“Life on Mars”) stars as Reverend Anderson, a West Virginia evangelist who believes he is a soldier in God’s holy war against the forces of evil on Earth. An inveterate drinker and gambler, he doesn’t believe God intends people to sweat the small stuff. Gabriel Bateman (“Stalker”) stars as Joshua Austin, an eight-year-old who lives across town from Kyle. To his family’s dismay, he appears to be in the clutches of demonic possession, but there’s something very different about this possession and its connection to Kyle Barnes.”

Episode 1 of Outcast is directed by upcoming horror director Adam Wingard.

It seems Cinemax holds high hopes for Outcast and the likely built-in fan base thanks to both Robert Kirkman’s previous television work and the fans of the comic this new series is based on. Cinemax is so sure of Outcast that the network has already renewed the show for a second season via the South by Southwest panel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
