‘Baywatch’ Finished; Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Announces Production’s End

The production for Baywatch has come to a close, according to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

It’s hard to forget the Baywatch television series, mostly because everyone remembers the amazing Pamela Anderson running along the sand and rescuing those who needed help. There’s also the great David Hasselhoff, whose muscle brought much to the series. If nostalgia excites you, then you’ll be happy to know that the new Baywatch movie is well on its way to hitting the big screen next year.

According to MovieWeb, Dwayne “The Great One” Johnson announced on his Instagram that the movie’s production was a wrap.

“That’s an official wrap! Holy s**t we had a blast pushing the rated R envelope. Hilarious, bad a** and highly dysfunctional ‘Avenger’s of the beach’ come home,” Dwayne posted.

There’s quite a bit of talent that was cast for Baywatch. Dwayne Johnson will star as Mitch Buchannon, the father figure of the crew. He was originally portrayed by David Hasselhoff in the original television series. Kelly Rohrbach will play the role of C.J. Parker, the noble lifeguard who joins Buchannon after some time in the show.

Other actors that will be featured in Baywatch are Zac Efron (High School Musical), Priyanka Chopra (Fashion), and Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas). Daddario worked alongside Dwayne Johnson for San Andreas, so this will not be the first time they’re coming together on film.

Baywatch will also feature cameos by the above mentioned actor and actress David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson. The two were iconic in the television series, so it could only be considered right that they make an appearance. It was reported by Dailymail that Johnson welcomed both Hasselhoff and Anderson via social media.

“In the 80’s, he drove the coolest car on the planet. In the 90’s, he dominated slow-mo running on the beach with the most successful TV show of all time. And today he’s simply still the f’n man. Phenomenal day on set with my brotha – the OG himself @DavidHasselhoff – the man who started it all. Great dude with a great sense of humor. AND he trained his a** off for our movie,” Dwayne said about David.

“She introduced the world to ‘CJ Parker’ and became one of the most iconic characters of a generation – for the most successful TV show of all time. A pleasure to welcome (as gorgeous as ever) Pamela Anderson to our #BAYWATCH cast,” he included in a message.

Based on the roles that will be played in Baywatch, it appears that the movie may just be a redo. Zac Efron will be Dwayne Johnson’s main source of competition in the movie, and apparently the two will be in constant states of butting heads. Priyanka Chopra will be playing the villain in Baywatch, giving the beach residents an antagonist position.

“How many people take on ‘The Rock’?” Chopra asked. “See, that’ll be a notch on my list.”

It sounds as though Baywatch will deliver all of the action and comedy that the original television series did, adding in the flavor of youthful talent and the veteran guidance of Hasselhoff and Anderson.

The movie looks to have been filmed in South Florida, as evidenced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson thanking the Floridians of Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton for their assistance. Baywatch is set to release in theaters on May 19 of 2017, so there’s at least a year ahead for fans who are excited to see the modern spin of such a memorable television show.
