WWE News: John Cena And Roman Reigns’ Inevitable Battle Will Only Help WWE

When John Cena sustained a torn rotator cuff several months ago, it was then time for another WWE superstar to carry the load as face of the company. Unfortunately, Seth Rollins wasn’t the choice due to an injury he sustained himself. Dean Ambrose isn’t seen as a face of the company, so it wasn’t going to be the Lunatic Fringe. Lastly, the third man of the Shield was hand-picked by the WWE to represent the company.

That man was Roman Reigns. The current WWE champion stepped up and took the role Cena left behind and has done admirably. Sure, most of the WWE Universe loathes Reigns, but at least he gets a good reaction every time he steps through that curtain. Not many professional wrestlers can say the same. At least Reigns has that going for him.

He’s currently near the end of a feud with AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. After his win at WrestleMania 32, he can’t be beaten. Not yet, at least. Who will be the man to dethrone “the guy?” It won’t be Styles, who is presumably going to lose at Extreme Rules on Sunday. Dean Ambrose isn’t taken seriously and Brock Lesnar is nowhere to be seen. There’s one last guy to beat Reigns at the biggest party of the summer.

In a report by Cageside Seats, John Cena and Roman Reigns are rumored to be linked to a WWE championship match at SummerSlam.

John Cena vs. Roman Reigns has apparently been talked about as a possible headlining match at SummerSlam this year.

How great would this matchup be? The two biggest stars in the company going head-to-head for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship would have the entire WWE Universe talking. There would be a great chance to have a new dynamic, as Reigns and Cena are both controversial figures. Who would be the heel and face in that feud?

Immediately upon Cena’s return, he’ll be a babyface. He’s only made one appearance since getting hurt, and that was at WrestleMania. During his time off, he’s appeared on multiple TV shows and even hosted one. Are his priorities different? John Cena spoke to ABC News about that exact subject.

“My goals don’t change. It’s the same thing when I started in 2002, it’s to get the mainstream audience a better perception of what WWE does. I am so passionate about what we do and I’m so quick to promote the WWE as a brand because I’m so loyal and passionate about it and I want everybody else to feel the same way. There are so many people that don’t watch our product at all and have preconceived notions about who our performers are and what they do, and my goal next month or five years from now is to change that perception. There are some very talented individuals that perform for our brand. I think our brand of entertainment is up there with anything as far as live experience. I want people to know that. It’s not uncool to do what we do.”

His priorities should be to help get younger talent over, but that’s besides the point. He will probably capture his 16th WWE championship and tie Ric Flair’s record. If it’s at SummerSlam, then it will be the main event. Anything to get Roman Reigns away from the title belt is completely acceptable. Most of the WWE fans wouldn’t even have any problem with Cena winning it again.

As long as he doesn’t have too long of a title run and hands it off to a young superstar, rather than another veteran. It’s inevitable that both these men will feud together in the WWE soon. It will absolutely be for the WWE championship too. The big question is, who will come out on top?
