PlayStation 4’s ‘Gran Turismo Sport’ Release Date Announced, Possibly Its First Great Racing Title For Purists

PlayStation 4’s Gran Turismo Sport release date has officially been announced. This could be great news for racing enthusiasts who want the full-on professional level racing experience.

Many racing purists have been seeing a massive drought in great titles on Sony’s current gen console. Yes, there is the Need for Speed reboot, but it failed to impress on launch, needing to be patched more than necessary before many considered it enjoyable. Of course, the route the series has taken after the Fast and Furious film series started gaining popularity is something they might not want.

Another game on its way whenever Refract Studios is done with it is Distance, but that’s even further from the realistic feel of steering three tons of steel muscle down the pavement. Distance has you dodging obstacles in a three-dimensional world where gravity isn’t always working the way you expect. Racing purists are probably steering clear of that one, but they no longer have to settle for DriveClub this November.

The PlayStation 4 Gran Turismo Sport release date could be a milestone for those of us who don’t like the arcade-like feel of its competitors. Some racers prefer to do qualifying laps to get some practice in before the actual race begins, and possibly get placed at the head of the line for an early advantage.

One thing that Gran Turismo has always strived for, ever since its launch on the original PlayStation, was the feel of actually being behind the wheel. They even go as far as to aim for perfect physics for each make and model. The steering is different for a Ford GT than it is for an Aston Martin, for example. It’s a subtlety which many car-based games get wrong.

Some game franchises like Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row make every vehicle seem to control the same way, making an 18-wheeler feel the same as a motorcycle. Anyone who’s driven those in real life knows there is a world of difference in how they feel and steer. Even braking feels different, with the semi requiring more distance at higher speeds.

PlayStation 4’s Gran Turismo Sport is likely to remind us just how different its cars handle, even down to the friction of the pavement. The release date of November 15 is also coming with additional benefits, likely from pre-ordering, depending on where you buy it.

  • PSN will offer exclusive Gran Turismo avatars, a dynamic theme, and $500,000 in-game credit.
  • Amazon will only offer the in-game credit.
  • GameStop will offer codes for two extra vehicles, the Chevrolet Corvette Group 3 and the Nissan NISMO GT-R GT3 N24.

The $69.99 Limited Edition copy of Gran Turismo Sport for PlayStation 4 will come with other bonuses, including eight extra cars from different classes, $1 million in-game credit, livery sticker pack, 30 GT Sport themed avatars, a racing helmet for your driver profile, and steel book packaging.

There will also be support for the upcoming PlayStation VR headset, so you’ll get an even more intense experience than ever. Add in a racing wheel and pedals and the only thing missing will be the heat of the engine and the wind whipping by the windshield.

Gran Turismo Sport will also feature some of the highest ranking race tracks in the world.

Sony is going all-out in their efforts to give racing purists the ultimate package, and the footage in the video shows they may be pushing for the full 1080p, 60fps visual prowess, making this the first racing title since Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 to reach that benchmark consistently.

Are you ready to rev up your engines and take on PlayStation 4’s upcoming Gran Turismo Sport on its release date of November 15?
