Both Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona, and newly crowned Europa League king Sevilla, will be going for a double when they face off Sunday in the Copa Del Rey final, and all the drama will stream live from Vicente Calderon Stadium in Madrid.

The Copa Del Rey Final, however, has a lot to live up to, if it is going to match the intensity of the UEFA Super Cup back on August 11 when Barcelona, coming in as Champions League winners, beat Europa League holders Sevilla on a winning goal in the 115th minute — after Sevilla fought back from a 4-1 deficit to send the match into extra time.

Barcelona will be defending the Copa Del Rey trophy they won in 2015, while at the same time going for their record 28th championship of Spain’s oldest domestic competition, which was first contested in 1903.

In addition to facing La Liga champions Barcelona, annually one of the top sides in the world, Sevilla will be facing a couple of other significant obstacles as they attempt to win their second trophy in five days.

Sevilla played in the UEFA Europa Cup Final, defeating Liverpool 3-1 on Wednesday in Basel, Switzerland. That massive match, in which Sevilla won their unprecedented third Europa League title in a row, came just four days after the seventh-place Spanish side played, and lost, their final La Liga match, which they lost to Atletico Bilbao.

Now, on Sunday, they will play for the coveted Copa Del Rey — their third match, and second championship final, in eight days.

The other major obstacle facing Sevilla in the Copa Del Rey Final on Sunday is the legendary Barcelona star, Lionel Messi himself.

While Messi scores against every team that he faces, the “Little Magician” has feasted on the Sevilla defense, scoring 25 goals in 20 career games against the Andalusian team — a more frequent rate of scoring than against any other team in the Argentine great’s career.

In his most recent seven games against Sevilla, Messi has put the ball in the back of the net 11 times.

And none of those totals include the four goals a youthful Messi scored against Sevilla in the 2004 Under-19 UEFA Super Cup.
