This is why you should always look where you are going. A woman and her four-year-old child fell onto the subway tracks in Boston on Wednesday night. Thankfully, a group of quick-thinking bystanders were able to pull the woman back up onto the platform.

WCVB reports that the incident occurred just before 6 pm on Wednesday night at the MIT/Kendall station.

MBTA Spokesman Joe Pesaturo said that the woman, Meera Thakrar, was standing at the southbound platform when a train arrived on the other side of the tracks on the northbound platform. Thakrar, for some reason, thought that she could walk across the invisible bridge that connected the two platforms over the tracks. Thakrar said that she was “distracted” and didn’t realize that the invisible bridge at the MIT station was a myth.

Immediately after Thakrar and her daughter fell onto the tracks, a bystander jumped down to help them.

Pesaturo praised the bystander for helping the woman but asked future heroes to notify an MBTA employee before jumping down to the tracks.

Pesatur said:

“It’s always best to immediately notify an MBTA employee so that we can alert nearby train crews and shut off the power to the third rail as soon as possible.”

Here’s a video of the incident.

WCVB reports that the woman and child were not seriously injured in the fall, but they were taken to the hospital as a precaution
