‘The Walking Dead’: Fans Will Understand Purpose Of Cliffhanger In Season 7, Robert Kirkman Says

The Walking Dead Season 6 finale ended with a cliffhanger, and fans were not happy. However, creator Robert Kirkman promises that the reason behind the wait will make sense in Season 7.

Warning: Possible spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 7 are ahead.

For several months, fans were looking forward to seeing Negan’s arrival on The Walking Dead. When it was time for the Season 6 finale to air, Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character did catch up with Rick and the group. Negan also had his barbed wire baseball bat, Lucille. Even though viewers know it was used on one TWD character because blood filled the screen, nobody knows who died.

This was a pretty big cliffhanger and fans of The Walking Dead were outraged. However, Robert Kirkman says that viewers will understand why it was done that way. In a response to an irritated Reddit user, the TWD creator explained people have assumptions of how Season 7 will begin.

“I just want to point out that a lot of what you seem to hate about the finale are your assumptions of how Season 7 will start. The death will have no impact now, etc. I assure you it will. You’re welcome to be unhappy with the episode that aired. Was it a misstep? Maybe. Only time will tell,” Robert Kirkman said on Reddit. “Also, there’s a lot of assumptions about why we did what we did, ‘ratings grab’ which also isn’t true.”

As for why Negan’s kill was hidden from viewers in The Walking Dead Season 6 finale, the creator teased that it will all make sense in Season 7.

“I do strongly believe that when you watch the Season 7 premiere (if you do) you will see the two halves of the story and it will all make sense why we did what we did. But a whole heck of a lot of you folks are unhappy. I’m not kidding myself about that,” Kirkman added regarding what is coming next on The Walking Dead. “Season 7 is very strong, we know what’s coming. If you stick around… you’ll like where we’re taking things.”

As Uproxx noted, Kirkman’s AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit was actually for his new show, Outcast. However, TWD fans couldn’t resist taking the opportunity to talk about the popular AMC zombie series.

Even though it is understandable why fans are still upset about The Walking Dead Season 6 finale, it will make the Season 7 premiere exciting and nerve-wracking. There have been other finale episodes that viewers didn’t like, but most tune in when the premiere airs. This will likely be the case with Season 7, too. Let’s just hope that Negan’s kill will be revealed immediately and fans won’t have to wait too long to find out who died on The Walking Dead.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Season 7 is currently filming. Spoilers include Ezekiel, Shiva and The Kingdom coming from The Walking Dead comic books. Also, Alexandria was seen with smoke, teasing Negan’s attack. There have also been motorcycles and an RV spotted on set, leading fans to assume that certain characters are still alive. Just keep in mind that episodes are not typically filmed in order. This isn’t to prevent spoilers, but it is for financial reasons and to limit wasted time.

What do you think of what Robert Kirkman had to say about the Season 6 finale cliffhanger on Reddit? Will the wait until October be worth it? Who do you believe Negan killed on The Walking Dead and how will Season 7 begin?

The Walking Dead Season 7 does not yet have a premiere date. However, it has always been in October and that will likely stay the same.
