Kanye West’s Rant On ‘Ellen DeGeneres’ – Discusses His Art, Media Perception And His Legacy

Kanye West going on an epic rant is absolutely nothing new and should really be expected at this point. The rapper/producer spent several minutes on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Newsday reports, going on about his tweets, Mark Zuckerberg, trying to help the world, and Michael Jackson.

Kanye’s Ellen rant began after DeGeneres brought up the idea of a board of directors being in charge of and managing Kanye’s twitter account, something that was brought up by wife Kim Kardashian, though it is something Kanye has absolutely no interest in. Ellen asked the producer about his tweets to Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, in which he asked for a pretty hefty sum of money — many millions — to invest in his ideas. Kanye doesn’t regret sending out those tweets, but he does admit that Twitter may not have been the right avenue on which to pursue his lofty goals.

“Now I understand why he didn’t hit me back,” West said of Mark Zuckerberg, who didn’t respond to his tweets. “I understand that Zuckerberg doesn’t use Twitter. Even though I have had dinner with him and his wife, and told them about how I wanted to help the world and he said he’d help me and then blah blah blah.”

Kanye didn’t seem to be overly bitter while he spoke, as he is saying all of this with a smirk on his face as the audience occasionally laughs in between some of the things he says. It wasn’t so much a rant as it was just an incredibly passionate and animated speech, which he is prone to give a lot of.

“I feel that if I had more resources, I could help more people,” Mr. West continued. “I have ideas that can make the human race existence, within our 100 years, better. Period.”

Kanye West said as much in his Twitter rant that took place earlier this year in February. He called himself this generation’s Walt Disney and wanted the world to know that he could make it a better place for everyone.

As Kanye’s rant/speech on Ellen continued, he basically dissed the paparazzi and the media’s perception of him, right before he got up out of his chair and began chanting with the audience. “Put your m***********g hands in the air right now,” Kanye said, as he got a pretty positive response from the audience cheering him on, with Ellen laughing. But Kanye continued talking about his vision, highlighting the fact that people are able to be known for more than just one thing and can be successful in more than one career path.

“We’re in a renaissance period,” West said. “My dad lived in homeless shelters less than five years ago. He’s a psych major, my mom was the first black female chair of the English department at Chicago State University, I was raised to do something, to make a difference.”

Kanye brought up the 2016 Oscars, and the idea of Black artists being blocked from succeeding and made it clear that it’s something he took very seriously. In naming other great minds and talents who have been stifled — like Picasso, Steve Jobs, and Walt Disney — Kanye defied the audience to name someone who could be mentioned in the same breath as those men.

“Isn’t that so funny, that people point fingers at the people who have influenced us the most. They talk the most s— about the people who care the most.”

As an artist, Kanye West feels that he can make the world a better place through his skill set. West mentioned his condition, called synesthesia, which is a neurological phenomenon that causes people to “see sounds” and see actual colors, forms, or shapes whenever they hear sounds. Kanye attributes much of his success to Russell Simmons and Michael Jackson. And Kanye’s rant ended with the rapper apologizing to daytime television for his “realness.”
