‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 12, Episode 24 Season Finale Recap [Spoilers]

Grey’s Anatomy fans have been waiting for this episode for weeks. Finally, the time has arrived to find out what happens on the Season 12 finale of Grey’s Anatomy.

Warning! Spoilers ahead!

ABC shared the following synopsis of Grey’s Anatomy Episode 1224.

“Meredith and Maggie support Amelia on an important day; Jo reveals that she has been keeping secrets from Alex while Arizona and Callie deal with the impact of their custody arrangement. Meanwhile, Ben leaps into action to help a friend.”

The season finale of Grey’s Anatomy starts with Amelia having an argument on the phone with her mother. None of Amelia’s family are going to be attending the wedding, because they think she is getting married too quickly. Owen shows up to the rescue and coaxes Amelia out of the bathroom.

“Come out, Amelia. Come out and marry me.”

While at the church, Amelia overhears Meredith talking to Owen and asking if he has told Christina. He says that he hasn’t and Meredith tells him she thinks he should, because Christina was the love of his life.

Now Amelia feels completely alone at the wedding. Derek was supposed to walk her down the aisle and none of her family want to be there for her. Amelia feels like she is stuck with Meredith who thinks Owen should be with Christina. Meredith lets Amelia know she is her person today and asks her what she wants to do. The next viewers see, Meredith, Maggie, and Amelia are running through the rain, and are soon in a car driving away from the wedding. Amelia is questioning if Owen is her new drug. Are Grey’s Anatomy fans in for another run away bride?

Amelia, Meredith, and Maggie return to the church and sit in the car in the rain, debating on whether or not they are going to go in. Amelia finally decides she is marrying Owen for the right reasons and they head back into the church. We see Amelia walking down the aisle, but they never actually show they went through with the wedding. For the sake of not having to worry until Grey’s Anatomy returns next season, we’ll make the assumption they went through with it.

Earlier on Grey’s Anatomy, a very pregnant April is Owen’s best man for the wedding. She suddenly realizes she left the rings back at Meredith’s house and grabs Ben to drive her back to the house to get them. They make it back to Meredith’s house, but she can’t remember where she left the rings. She is stressing out and almost immediately starts having contractions. Eventually, April finds the rings and her contractions immediately start intensifying. Ben tries to convince her to go to the hospital, but April is worried they won’t make it in time. They decide they will deliver the baby at the house and Ben calls 911 for an ambulance.

Ben examines April and realizes he feels a foot and the baby is breech. The baby’s cord has also prolapsed and the baby is now in danger of dying, because its blood supply is cut off. April tells Ben he needs to perform a c-section on her in Meredith’s house. Ben hesitates, because he knows he could lose his job after the other emergency c-section he performed at the hospital. He and Bailey had just gotten in a fight that morning over the situation, after she said she couldn’t trust him.

Arizona talks Ben through the emergency c-section on the phone, while Jackson and Bailey stand by listening to what is happening. Ben starts to perform the c-section on April on Meredith’s kitchen table. April tells Ben that if things start to go south, he needs to save the baby and not her. Jackson takes the phone from Arizona and tells Ben he has to save April, not the baby. Ben cuts into April and she let’s out a blood curdling scream before she goes completely silent and the ambulance sirens are heard in the background.

The ambulance arrives to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital with April, unconscious on a stretcher, and Ben carrying Jackson and April’s baby. April immediately heads into surgery to have the c-section repaired.

Later, Grey’s Anatomy fans learn that April has made it through her surgery, and it’s a girl!

Many have been questioning if Miranda and Ben would make it after the incident with the emergency c-section in the hospital. After she learns that April has made it through surgery, Miranda tells Ben he saved two lives today. She finally forgives him for his actions.

Meanwhile on Grey’s Anatomy, Alex returns to the apartment to pack his things after Jo told him in last week’s episode that she wouldn’t marry him. Jo blurts out, “Let’s make a baby.” Alex asks her if she will tell him why she won’t marry him and she refuses. Alex gets angry and walks out on Jo.

Jo ends up drunk at the bar talking to DeLuca. She tells him about how she had told Alex she wouldn’t marry him and DeLuca wants to know a good reason why. She finally admits that she can’t marry Alex, because she is already married.

DeLuca takes Jo to her house. She is very drunk and starts undressing in front of him to get ready for bed. She starts telling DeLuca that her husband was physically abusive to him and she ran away. She says she can’t divorce him, because he would find her. Jo continues to undress, and while DeLuca tries to get her to put her clothes back on and help her into bed so she can sleep off the alcohol, she pulls him on top of her. Alex arrives home at that very moment and immediately starts throwing punches at DeLuca, several of which land directly on his face. Is DeLuca the character that doesn’t survive? Will Grey’s Anatomy now have a murderer?

Grey’s Anatomy did a very good job of wrapping up loose ends on Season 12. They don’t leave fans hanging when it comes to “Calzona.” Arizona is worried about Callie. Sofia keeps mentioning that she is so sad, and she refuses to attend Owen’s wedding.

At the end of the episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Arizona shows up to Callie’s house with Sofia. She tells her they went about the custody battle wrong and Sofia deserves to have two happy moms. She talks about how she wants Sofia this summer and every other school year, and they will find a way to work out the rest of the details. Arizona is essentially telling Callie that she can move to New York to be with Penny. Does this mean Callie really won’t be back for next season?

Throughout the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy, it is clear Nathan and Meredith have a thing for each other. Early on in the episode, they run into each at Grey Sloan Memorial hospital, and viewers learn they had sex four times in one night. Nathan ends up bringing the rings to Owen at the church and they run into each other again. It is clear that there might be hope for Nathan and Meredith in the future. That is until Maggie tells Meredith she likes Nathan and she thinks he likes her too.

What did you think about the season 12 finale of Grey’s Anatomy? Do you think there is hope for “Japril”? Is it possible Nathan and Meredith will end up together, or do you think Maggie has now ruined all chances of that? Leave your feedback in the comments below. See you next season!
