Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera was pulled in the top of the second inning of Detroit’s game with the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday due to soreness in his right ankle.

According to ESPN, the injury happened in the bottom of the first after Cabrera lined out to right field and appeared hobbled as he jogged towards first base.

Though he attempted to man his position at third to start the second inning, the 7-time All-Star was visibly in pain. After a routine pop out to first baseman Prince Fielder, Tigers manager Jim Leyland and an athletic trainer went out to check on Cabrera and decided he would exit the game.

Cabrera then walked off the field and was replaced at third by Ramon Santiago.

After the game, which Detroit ended up squeaking out a victory in the 11th, Cabrera was diagnosed with right ankle soreness and is listed as day-to-day, the team announced.

Cabrera’s exit also came hours after the Tigers announced that right-hander Doug Fister would miss his next scheduled start Saturday because of tightness in his right groin.

Cabrera, 29, leads the Tigers with a .326 batting average, 31 homers, and a league-leading 105 RBIs. He has never been on the disabled list in his 10-year career and currently ranks second in the AL in average.

Over the course of his MLB career, Miguel Cabrera has 1,754 hits, 308 home runs, and 1,088 RBIs and is batting .318.

Bleacher Report notes that, since joining the Tigers in 2008, Miguel has only missed 17 games.
