How fast can you run a mile? What if you had to chug four beers during your run? Olympian Nick Symmonds tried to set a record in the “Beer Mile” earlier this week. And, yes, a record actually exists.

According to TMZ, the rule for the beer mile are as follows: The athlete must chug a “full-sized” beer prior to running a mile. At every quarter-mile mark, the athlete has to chug another full-sized beer. Vomiting is not permitted.

Symmonds completed the beer mile with an impressive time, but it wasn’t enough to take the record. According to USA Today, Canadian marathon legend Jim Finlayson completed the drunken race in five minutes and nine seconds. Symmonds finished his race about 14 seconds slower.

Symmonds failed to take home a medal at the 2012 London Olympics (he finished 5th in the 800 meter race), and he couldn’t even set a world record in the beer mile. Man, this guy should just give up on his athletic career …
