Margot Robbie Says Harley Quinn Is The Best Character In ‘Suicide Squad’

Margot Robbie, the actress best known for her breakthrough performance in the Oscar-winning Wolf of Wall Street, recently appeared on the big screen once again in Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. According to the New Daily, Margot Robbie was one of the best things in the “lackluster and unfunny” Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Despite the film’s extensive marketing campaign, the final release was generally accepted as underwhelming at best. Margot Robbie surprisingly received very little screen time despite being the second billed actress in the cast. The New Daily reports that with the little screen time that she had, Margot Robbie managed to elevate the film from what it would have been otherwise. Her brief screen time is one of the few high points in the film.

The film is about Kim Baker, a TV journalist played by Tina Fey, who decides to take a brief term as a war correspondent in Afghanistan. Baker initially does not fit in with the extreme environment, but formula and convention dictate that she will have to rise to the occasion before long. Despite the drama/comedy elements of the film, Tina Fey’s performance was deemed to be a little lacking, especially considering she is usually best known for her humor, pathos, and charm.

The more appealing performance in the film is that of Margot Robbie, who plays a fellow reporter, occupying a complicated presence that straddles comic relief and journalistic mania. Her character has been described as having a hunger that reflects in her thirst for action, and it is clear that she outshined her fellow co-stars in the film.

Margot Robbie will get the chance to impress once again as she will play the role of Harley Quinn in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie. According to Yahoo Movies, Margot Robbie believes that her portrayal of Harley Quinn is the best and most interesting character in the film.

The baseball bat wielding, hot pants wearing, bombshell nemesis of Batman, Harley Quinn has already become one of the prime attractions of David Ayer’s super villain. Margot Robbie believes that the love and excitement fans have for Harley is well deserved and well placed as she believes that she is the very best of the bad bunch.

Margot Robbie spoke on how playing Harley Quinn made her fall in love with the character.

“For the first time, I thought that I had the best character in the movie. I wouldn’t trade my character in Suicide Squad for anyone else’s.”

She went on to say that although she wasn’t a big comic book fan growing up, she is “obsessed” with them now, calling them “rad” and admitting that she reads them in her own time, completely separate to her role as Harley Quinn.

She also mentioned cosplayers and how impressed she constantly finds herself with the works of art people create.

“We went to Comic-Con… the energy is insane. I could go as Harley Quinn in the actual costume from the movie, and somebody there would have a better one.”

Margot Robbie’s genuine enthusiasm and love for the role is what shows the biggest promise for the film, as it bodes well that an actress of her caliber gave it her all to bring one of the comic book’s greatest villains to life. Robbie also revealed that she did not need to audition for the part, saying that she felt the character even though she initially did feel a little self-conscious in the costume.

Suicide Squad opens in cinemas on August 5, 2016.
