NBA Rumors: Jeremy Lin Leaving Charlotte Hornets For Philadelphia 76ers

NBA rumors have been swirling around Jeremy Lin. The 27-year-old guard is set to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming summer. Lin is one of the top point guards available in free agency. Several teams in the National Basketball Association will be attempting to sign Linsanity to their team. According to Sporting News, one of the teams that will be calling about Lin is the Philadelphia 76ers. They are in need of an upgrade at their guard positions and someone who can help the offense score some points.

Jeremy Lin is best known for his time with the New York Knicks. That was where Linsanity was born. He helped spark some life into the franchise until he suffered a season-ending injury. That didn’t stop the Houston Rockets from signing Lin to a three-year deal worth $25 million. He was with the Rockets for two seasons then he got traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Lin has played for five different teams in his six seasons in the NBA.

Last summer, Jeremy Lin decided to sign with the Charlotte Hornets. Lin signed a two-year deal worth $4.3 million, with the second year being a player option. His primary role with the Hornets was being the sixth man. Lin is currently behind Kemba Walker on the depth chart. Lin brought a lot of energy and provided a spark on offense. He is an amazing player to have coming off the bench. He played a huge part of why the Hornet’s bench performed so well.

Jeremy Lin will have a tough decision this summer. He will have to decide if he wants to resign with the Charlotte Hornets and be a backup, or look to sign with a team where he can start. Lin has stated that this season was the most fun for him. Head coach Steve Clifford let him play his game. He could decide to join a team like the Philadelphia 76ers because they are lacking at the point guard position. The 76ers have stated that they are willing to overpay for players to come to Philadelphia. Lin has a good chance of getting paid.

Philadelphia 76ers might have an advantage in signing Jeremy Lin because he has ties to assistant head coach Mike D’Antoni. He credited a lot of his success to D’Antoni because he was the one who gave Lin his first chance at showing his skills to the NBA. Lin would almost be guaranteed a starting job with the 76ers.

This season, the Philadelphia 76ers starting point guard was Ish Smith. They traded for Smith on Christmas Eve from the New Orleans Pelicans. Since joining the 76ers, he has done an excellent job for the team. Smith was averaging 14.7 points, seven assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game in 32 minutes. Those are good numbers, but he set to become a free agent this summer. Smith had a good season, but the team may not bring him back next year.

The Philadelphia 76ers will have some competition for the services of Jeremy Lin in free agency. One team that could potentially have interest in Lin will be the Brooklyn Nets. He has been linked to the Nets because they hired Kenny Atkinson to become their new head coach. Atkinson was the assistant coach when Lin had his breakout season.

The Philadelphia 76ers will be looking to make a splash in free agency. They are also hoping to get the fans interested in the team again. Signing an enigma like Jeremy Lin could garner their attention. The 76ers are in need of a point guard for next season. Lin has proven himself as a good quality starter in the NBA.
